@storyandplot “I speak French! Where did I learn French? Was I in the Navy?” It’s a pure delight and they both elevate it by giving it real heart.

I have watched OVERBOARD countless times. Every generation in my family loved it. It is eminently rewatchable.
The great Garry Marshall had a phenomenal run of romantic comedies, and this remains my favorite.
There is some suspension of disbelief required, as even as a high schooler, I saw this scene and thought, "That ain't right."
No matter how awful she is!
But the film is so good-natured, the chemistry and comic timing is perfection, and an early script by yet another great, Leslie Dixon, is superb.
How it gets us rooting for them and screaming, "Oh no!" when her husband shows up is an absolute magic trick.
It is because I loved movies like this just so much that I never wanted to focus on one genre.
Kurt Russell made USED CARS and ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK back-to-back, so I wasn't surprised by his range at the time.
But as I get older, I am more and more amazed by it. What a gift he and Goldie Hawn are in this film.
I love this movie.

@davidshor @shannonrwatts It’s not a reflection of their values. It’s a reflection on the reality that you need lots to money now just to live a basic, middle class life.

Historically young men cared a lot more about making money than young women - that has now reversed

This one surprised me. Teen girls now say "having lots of money" is important in life at the same rate as boys. There used to be a huge gap.

@irishlad444 This feels like the proper sequel to The French Connection, instead of French Connection II

@Super70sSports It’s Daniel Craig, but only in one movie. Casino Royale.

@KirkWrites79 @likaluca Yesss. And then when a show is mediocre, everyone calls it a masterpiece because it’s not total crap. The bar becomes so low.

@MediumSizeMeech I think this every time I watch. It’s too bright, reminds me of being in the office. The conference table doesn’t help. Great podcast, though.

@QuintsVessel @BoldenSkip I consider this movie the proper sequel to The French Connection.

Recommend a film from the 70s
The Seven-Ups (1973)
One of the unsung gems of the 1970’s. If gritty, NYC based cop films like The French Connection, Serpico, and The Taking of Pelham One Two Three are your thing then this should turn your crank.

Recommend a film from the 70s Race with the Devil (1975)

This is going to haunt Jon Stewart for the rest of his life.

Jon Stewart downplays the threat of Trump and criticizes media hysteria, saying “We don’t know what’s going to happen when Donald Trump takes over.” He's also optimistic that Trump will make the government more efficient. 🙄 archive.is/BkdKM

@mark14009 @missmayn No one is freaking out.People are having opinions and conversations about what they think are good or bad strategies. You know, the way you do in a democracy.

@FranziaMom His podcast is often about the 90s music scene. This was a totally normal discussion about the 90s music environment by two people whose were there, from their perspective. It’s fine, The only drama is coming from you guys posting things like this.

Courtney Love and Billy Corgan have been everything to each other: friends, enemies, collaborators, lovers. Through it all, they’ve shared one thing, and that’s hating Kim Gordon. Love went on Corgan’s podcast to rehash Woodstock ‘94-era beef. vulture.com/article/courtn…
