My background in medicinal chemistry has been at the core of my understanding and perspective while working across various fields of research (all ultimately aimed at fighting #AMR). Here are some of my thoughts on "looking back and moving forward in medicinal chemistry".

Global Antibiotic R&D Partnership (GARDP)
2025 was a BIG year for GARDP 🎉 We delivered our first FDA-approved product, proving that a not-for-profit partnership model can drive antibiotic development with access from the start. Looking ahead to 2026, we’re excited to expand our impact and continue tackling AMR. 🚀 Happy New Year and a successful start to 2026! 🎆 #AMR #AntimicrobialResistance #GlobalHealth #NewYear #GARDP

"Antimicrobial resistance disproportionately impacts patients with cancer, because many have weakened immune systems that make them completely reliant on effective antibiotics." @Forbes examines how #AMR is undermining #cancer care and harming patients forbes.com/sites/juergene…

The Molecule Behind Exercise’s Anti-Aging Effects *Today's letter (link in 6/6) reviews a new paper in @CellCellPress published 2 days ago. And includes a shoutout to someone special. 💪1/6) Nothing matches the health benefits of exercise. It’s the closest thing we have to a universal prescription for healthy aging. But have you ever wondered how movement actually slows aging? Movement isn’t magic. Exercise initiates a complex cascade of biochemical events that lead to adaptations designed to improve whole-body health. By identifying what those adaptations are, we can tap into the systems nature has evolved to optimize our health. That’s the question the researchers behind today’s study explored. They weren’t trying to replace exercise — but they were curious if they could “bottle up” part of its benefits. Method: In this study, 13 relatively sedentary men were instructed to exercise by running 5 kilometers — first every other day, then every day — for 25 days. The researchers measured a broad suite of metabolites in their bodies before and after the exercise regimen... #exercise #healthspan #longevity #staycurious

It was a pleasure to host Cèsar de la Fuentez @delafuentelab in Würzburg! A great day spent learning more about his excellent work on applying AI to antibiotic discovery and exchanging thoughts on other things. Looking forward to our paths crossing again.

The fungal crisis is here and desperately needs addressing: A quick assessment of the armamentarium of antifungal agents shows just how underprepared countries are...fungal infections receive less than 1.5% of all infectious disease research funding statnews.com/2023/02/09/fun… #AMR

A part of my PhD research has been published in @ACSCentSci. The article describes the streamlined development of a dual-functional antibiotic adjuvant which shows potency against complicated Gram-negative bacterial infections and exhibits promising immunomodulatory properties.

Happy to share our latest paper, published in @ACSCentSci. We report a novel dual-functional antibiotic adjuvant, with potency against challenging Gram-negative superbugs, along with promising immunomodulatory property. Congratulations to all the authors! pubs.acs.org/doi/full/10.10…

Bactericidal antibiotics release DNA that activates TLR9, while static antibiotics do not. Can profoundly impact treatment outcome. Should clinicians consider this when choosing antibiotics? Amazing work by Julia Gross and collaboration with Iain Fraser! nature.com/articles/s4146…
