The other issue is also “authenticity” not just in terms of storytelling, but in terms of grandeur. Both Aadipurush and the new Ramayan have trolls and VFX doing crazy things. Ramayan is beautiful because of the emotion, the simplicity, the righteousness and the relationships. But the focus in newer films is “effects”.

We’d be better off if Bollywood did not make movies on Ramayana and other Pauranik histories. The don’t have intellectual heft to correct the centuries of false telling of these stories. Just as Dhurandhar had @AdityaRajKaul as consultant, we need someone with heart and mind in right place like @6amiji as the consultant to catch the nuances behind the words written.

@Exposer010101 True and nicely articulated. As a standard and history, many of us consider the Valmiki Ramayan as the source of all versions.

@parijit There are 300+ versions of Ramayana. We also have Ramayana stories in Jain and Buddhist scriptures which are totally different and considered as oldest. Ramayana stories are also in other cultures outside India. Even Ram is different in many stories.

@parijit Yes Ravaan was the villain. He was a great scholar, but still a villain. You can be world's greatest scholar, have all the Nobel prizes together and still be a villain if you do what he did.
