and it’s crazy bc nothing about his disordered eating is subtle. the categorisation of foods as moral and immoral, severe restriction, binging in san fran, purging in paris, his ritualistic controlled eating in dubai… if he was a white woman there is no way this would be missed
ALL UP IN YOUR MIND@blackmagnet0

I do think one of the reasons that people don't see Louis’s behavior around food as an ed/disordered is bc the face of disordered eating has been thin young white women for a very long time

@weiszandvirtue and there’s literally nothing whatsoever to suggest that the book will frame vegetarianism as the “correct” way to be a vampire - that would be antithetical to the entire interview

@weiszandvirtue but lestat has no need to “fight the notion that he’s an inferior vampire”. he knows that he’s superior in every way. not to mention that louis repeatedly refers to himself as lesser than - “i was a shame-ridden second, a fumbling despondent killer, a botched vampire”

okay, but louis’ critique of claudia’s diet isn’t remotely comparable to the ‘daughter’s fate’ (inevitable subjugation under patriarchy). louis’ vegetarianism doesn’t afford him any material power; it renders him weaker than lestat in all ways that matter. judgement ≠ oppression
butch charlie kaufman@weiszandvirtue

people saying that claudia does not have a fate that she shares with lestat and is trying to avoid but in THIS case, the fate is in regards to their shared approach to vampirism and how louis views them as lesser for it. as much as claudia believed louis perceived her as equal

@mwlikestowrite exactly, not to mention that the continuation of this scene is lestat pressuring louis into hunting human and louis bending to lestat’s wishes! remind me where the power lies???

@partyfears_ Neither Claudia or Lestat even attempt to try Louis’ diet anyway. They both know it’s unhealthy in terms of actual sustenance in the text. Like what kind of subjection is asking your partner and child “hey guys have you considered gaining an eating disorder?”

these writers didn’t spend an entire scene having lestat compare louis to nola on a balcony only for this to be the popular read when louis jokingly compares lestat to montreal on another balcony 😭

omg new quote: often father has to act as mother’s valet and sit at the back of the bus because they live in a racially segregated society. often mother almost kills father in front of daughter. often father and daughter are isolated in their house while mother cheats on father

you can analyze iwtv to hell and back and make a million points, but if you don't include race inequality when the show specifically deals with it, it does make look the other million points a bit lacking
