My husband got a bonus today…. Literally hit our account this morning.
It isn’t a huge bonus but enough to get a couple of things caught up/paid off and do something with the kids.
He just came in for lunch and our fridge stopped working at some point. He still has to look at it.. but doesn’t have high hopes he can fix it.
I’m not sure whether or not to be grateful we have a little extra right now to replace it or be pissed off.. because as soon as we have it - out it goes, and I have to let go of my plans.
Also maddening is the fridge is only like 5 years old, but conveniently out of the warranty period.
I’ll have a pity party now and be over it tomorrow. 🥹

We are a Protestant-created nation that owes no allegiance to kings or popes. Protestantism’s focus on individual conscience, Scripture alone, and resistance to hierarchical tyranny gave humanity its greatest freedoms — including the secular constitutional framework that protects secularists, deists, and dissenters.
This is why MAGA faces constant attacks from Romanists. When Pope Leo XIV criticizes American power and ‘diplomacy based on force,’ the Vatican expects the U.S. to bend. Instead, Pentagon officials gave Cardinal Christophe Pierre a blunt reminder of raw American strength and invoked the Avignon Papacy — a warning that no foreign sovereign, spiritual or otherwise, overrides our sovereignty.
History lesson for all Americans: Our republic was built to reject papal claims as much as royal ones. That’s the spirit MAGA defends.

This is actually a very humane solution.
When I was a kid I got chased/bitten by a neighbors dog and it was immediately euthanized and the owner got a huge fine.
He's training these dogs not to bark at/bite strangers in the road, and some stinging eyes is a good compromise.

It seems a lot of people haven’t accepted that we are likely down to two options with Iran:
-a long, costly ground war

-a peace deal with a lot of crappy stuff in it

A student today at my elite university admitted to me today that she took a class so she could work on reading for more than 20 minutes at a time. She can't read. She mainly skims and summarizes, she says and still gets A's.
This student is, by professional standards, illiterate. Gonna have high GPA when she graduates.
This conversation was had after 6 of 22 students dropped my course because the maximum reading per week in one week was over 100 pages.
What people aren't grasping is that this is literally *dangerous*. These people are going to be come doctors, engineers, etc. They are - by any metric - vastly less capable than prior generations. These effects are cumulative over a lifetime.
This grade inflation is part of the problem, but not even close to the entirety. And the problem obviously starts in K-12.
Students don't know history because, you can't actually become historically literate on the advice of 'never assign more than 30 pages a week'. You can't develop any of the skills that came with literacy. This is, quite honestly, a civilizational catastrophe.

I've had far too many intake calls with guys in this dead bedroom situation. Some won't leave just because they are not ready to deal with the loss of kids, status, and assets. This hesitation is usually just a time and "processing" issue. Even if they are not ready now, they will be. Many come back within months with conviction to finally pull the trigger. Others, however, will not leave regardless of how badly they are treated because it's against their faith. I've had guys in dead bedrooms for over a decade who refuse this option because it's ostensibly unbiblical for them to leave. This drives me crazy not only because it is slave morality masquerading as virtue, but because it isn't even biblical. She's in breach of the marital contract - it is a dissolution of the "one flesh" union, and is akin to abandonment. The premise of a wife depriving her husband of sex during biblical times for months let alone years when she was healthy and fertile would be preposterous. The Church would have intervened on behalf of the husband and if the wife continued to refuse they would have granted the divorce. Even if these guys don't want to pull the legal trigger, they can still separate. Their willingness to endlessly tolerate bad faith behavior and work harder and harder to "serve" her tells you a lot about why their wives are refusing to have sex with them to begin with. Bottom line is if you are too weak of a Christian to stand up against a manipulative woman you are useless against the devil. Spare me the moral lectures when you are enabling what is essentially evil.

Yes, what counts as "American" today is fully contested between conservatives and liberals. Who decides? There is no longer any unified culture or set of supreme values that enjoy a consensus. We can lament this, but it's a fact. So when we ask immigrants to "assimilate," what culture are we asking them to assimilate into exactly?
