32 years ago this week saw the filming of the MMPR season 2 premiere: the two-part story named "The Return of Lord Zed". Cluster #17 was a 9-day shoot involving exteriors at Rowher Flats for the dirt biking and new stock footage Zedd's Chamber and the Thunderzord cockpits.

@retrocenter I wonder if this was an intentional experiment, a proof of concept to see if production could turn around “new” stories without relying on specific monster suits or PFMs Amid production and casting uncertainties, it’s easy to see how that might be eyed as a potential bandaid

Power Rangers Turbo's "Spirit of the Woods" was written in July 1997, only a matter of weeks after the Megaranger episode it was based on had aired in Japan. This is probably the fastest an episode has ever been adapted in the shows entire 30 year history.

@retrocenter You fessed up on the other thread, so does that mean this one is real and not another April Fools' joke?

The only other one I've ever seen was as set decoration in the MMPR episode of "The Toys That Made Us" on Netflix, next to Margaret Loesch. It doesn't necessarily mean that it was Margaret's, though. It's too small in the frame to spot what the award was for.

In July 1996, the cast & crew of MMPR Productions cast their votes in the 1996 Golden Alpha Awards! These were a fun way to recognise the hard work & suffering endured when making the biggest kids show in the world. Jackie Marchand won the category of "Favorite 1996 Script" for "Bulk Fiction".

@razzle1337 What's the story behind this photo? There are so many "spot the difference" quirks compared to the suits seen in the actual movie.

@PR_Media_Info Thanks for sharing! Hmm. It says Preparation Date: 12/15/94 and Release Date TBA. But all sources say the VHS was released Oct '94. 🤔

@PR_Media_Info Good thing Haim Saban and Shuki Levy were so well-compensated with music royalties. They must've spent a lot of time composing all those songs. 🤡

@retrocenter Second row photo #1 of 6-Ranger team is, I believe, an outtake -- but extremely similar to a shot that was used.. VERY sparingly in my experience. Shame as I think it looks great

"Rush to get Power Rangers toys". 1994 news archive footage. Counterfeiters (bootlegs), scalpers, frustrated parents, confused adults wondering what the appeal could be. And one lady who acquires her rare toys using "a computer system". youtu.be/oBjfaba2lms @PR_Media_Info

I’ve shared this a few times in various places but this is the first time I’ve actually framed it for display. This is JDF’s audition script for MMPR. About 20 years ago, JDF seemed to be pretty done with PR and was liquidating all the memorabilia he had in storage. I was put in touch with him and given the chance to pick up a few items, almost all of them managed to make it through the post too. This has become one of the most special ones, since it’s an absolute one of a kind item. It’s cheap fax paper, worn and yellowed with age. It won’t lost forever, it’s been stored away since I got it but I think it’s time to bring it out. You can see that the scene is between Victor and Zack- Victor was the original name for Jason. Presumably this is a re-use of the sides used to audition for Jason, since the character of Tommy was originally called Rocky at this point.

@retrocenter They're all simultaneously attacking the poor monster. Would Zordon approve of such behaviour?

I love set pictures like this. These aren't from a deleted scene or a missing episode, it was just Bruce Heinsius being creative.

@retrocenter Was one of these takes from the actual video shoot, or are they all later overdubs? (Is this AI audio separation?)

After the 1992 pilot of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers was shot, the very first episode of the show to be made was "Different Drum". This episode contains some vestigial elements from the early concepts and even features a unique morphing sequence with alternate voice takes.

@retrocenter Too cool! Was the book Jurassic Park big in Japan?? I'm surprised he would've paid attention to news about film rights, that long before movie pre-production. So Dragon Quest... Dragon Ranger? What's the source for the art and interview(s)?

This is the 1991 PLEX character art for Zyuranger. According to producer Takeyuki Suzuki, his decision to use a dino motif was thanks to Spielberg's acquisition of the rights to Jurassic Park in May 1990. According to Suzuki, the fantasy storyline and ancient tribes were a reference to the videogame Dragon Quest on the Famicom and how popular it was with children at the time.

@retrocenter @Dusk_geist Cast/crew mentioned that toys were purchased from specialty shops carrying the JP imports. Since those wouldn't be using the typical supply chain, maybe they retained stock?

@Dusk_geist I mean, they have said that they done that, and I don’t doubt that they went to the store at least once, but those Morphers were only on toy store shelves from 93-94, so I don’t think it happened that regularly.

Here's a look at the original screen props from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers season 1. These were originally Bandai Japan Zyuranger Dynobucklers toys with modified English stickers, made by Mark Richardson. Look closely & you'll see the Japanese stickers beneath the American ones.

@retrocenter I was there in Phoenix it was hot. Here’s a fun fact. That’s Dan Southworth in the suit. He was telling his story and revealed that he did the stunt show and i told him I was there we took a picture exactly the same way.
