In the late 1980s, McDonnell Douglas tested the GE36 propfan on an MD-80. It combined the fuel efficiency of a turboprop with the speed of a jet and proved the concept could work. But with fuel prices dropping, noise concerns, and changing priorities, it never made it into airline service. Even so, the program helped shape many of the engine technologies used today.

@CombatWombat70 @SillyGirlPsyops @Saito___Yuki @GavinNewsom @AGLizMurrill 1: it is not possible to 3D print a working gun with a consumer 3D printer. 2: enforcement would require having an AI look at every file before printing. That means mandatory cloud linking and a LOT of false positives.
