This entire episode is a sad, predictable train wreck. As predictable as sunrise. And it’s only the latest confirmation that the leaders and ministers aligned with this congregation do not possess a Biblical view of sexual sin. But, honest observers have known that for a while.

Glad to see an SBC leader admit that differing procedural approaches doesn’t equal a lack of concern about the underlying issue. Some of us were maligned as, oh what was it? Oh yes, “resisting reform.” Apparently the difference in obfuscation and statesmanship is about 5 years.

When you’re trying to solve a problem that is growing worse, it’s not very wise to take advice from someone who kept telling you there was no problem.

When it comes to the SBC Annual Meeting, location matters. Here are some of my thoughts and concerns.

Tremendous resource! a.co/d/094IhmgQ “Preaching is not only about content but delivery. Many preachers can preach at 85 miles per hour. But that is their limit. My goal in this book is to help you gain that extra ten miles per hour in sermon preparation and delivery.”

My son wanted to meet Bro Steve at the 2016 SBC. The next summer, he asked me to preach at Bellevue one Sunday of his vacation. 2 days before SBC21, he called to pray for me. For several reasons, it was a powerful conversation about legacy and family. Rest in peace, Doc.

I agree completely with what @WillyRice says here. The way we act, even with those we disagree with, is a reflection of our own Christian maturity. Social media doesn’t reflect it, but what Willy calls for has generally been my experience in the SBC. Grateful for that! Give the full interview a listen if you haven’t.

“Let's stick with the issues and let's remember our world is watching and let's see if we can have good, healthy dialogue.” —@WillyRice We asked Willy for counsel on how Southern Baptists can rise above social media mudslinging headed into the Convention. Here's his answer:

Either treat abortion like the taking of innocent human life or stop saying you believe abortion is the taking of innocent human life.

The way forward for Baptists is not to occupy some mushy evangelical middle ground. It is to stand on historic Baptist convictions and timeless Scriptural foundations. baptistrenewal.us

@TomBuck @1KingdomDoulos My outline was: 1. Her desperation in Jericho 2. Her declaration about Jehovah 3. Her demonstration of Jesus I don’t alliterate for my people. I alliterate for myself so I can remember my outline :-)

@TomBuck Hilarious! I believe I called mine, “The Crimson Thread.” But I remember thinking about titling it, “When Great-Grandma Got Saved,” to emphasize her place in the Messianic line. As if to say, “Don’t be unkind to Sister Rahab. Jesus won’t like you bashing His grandma.”

I preach for a response but I’m keenly aware a sermon’s fruitfulness will be measured at the end of the age, not the end of the service.

@BobHicks_ No, freedom to worship is not given by the Constitution anywhere. It is protected there but is given by God. And that protection is not absolute. A person is free to BELIEVE whatever they wish but cannot DO anything they wish, not even under an umbrella of freedom of religion.
