@maxberstapen @bears0 @Simi_2210_ (inversible functions also have to be surjective but thats less applicable here) basically, if I have a random # A between -5,5 and I say f(x)=|x|, f(A)=4, you cannot resolve f^-1(4) to A, the original value is unknowable. It’s a 50/50 whether it was 4 or -4, information was lost

@maxberstapen @bears0 @Simi_2210_ certain functions, such as even exponents and absolute values, are “non-injective” functions. This means that they fail the horizontal line test. Only injective functions have inverses since you inherently lose information when applying a non-injective function

@maxberstapen @bears0 @Simi_2210_ technically you also can’t go from absval to +/-, people get confused over this a lot since many grade school algebra / calc teachers use the radical symbol incorrectly for simplicity

@bears0 @Simi_2210_ technically it would be x^2 = 16 x = +/- sqrt(16) x = -4,4 the radical symbol ALWAYS gives only the principal (positive) root

@omegatheta @fangsxbangs People used to say the internet was a gimmick. Before our time, people said electricity was bad and the danger outweighed the benefits. Horse people were up in arms about cars. Why do you think this technological development will be any different than the rest of history?

@YobiZen @GravitysGrace @dinosaurs1969 almost of my classmates from high school would have been able to ask those questions definitely. my public school was around median for our county but i do acknowledge we were in a less socioeconomically-disadvantaged area for the most part.

@pastthephase @GravitysGrace @dinosaurs1969 You overestimate most student, because Most students arent that smart to write these. Only the top 10 in class at minimum, or top 30-50 at school can write those questions properly. Remember your classmates, can anyone below the top 10 in score ask those questions?

@GravitysGrace @dinosaurs1969 i think thats true in some schools but the majority of high schoolers would still be at this literacy rate. stuff like youtube shows outliers disproportionately

@pastthephase @dinosaurs1969 I watch teacher content on yt sometimes and I see a lot of teachers sharing their experience of being forced to pass students or inflate grades of students bc it looks better for the school. A lot of kids are graduating and still illiterate.

@dinosaurs1969 Am I supposed to believe high school students are literate enough to write these? If so, wrong school to ban cells.

@XJournaLK @engineers_feed Well of course for models that need to be precise more accurate values for Pi will be used. However when calculating some things in your head 3 or 22/7 can be fine.

@XJournaLK @engineers_feed Engineers assume Pi as 3. The account is called World of Engineering. Therefore engineers would calculate the total as $26.86+3.00 to total $29.86.

@engineers_feed The total bill in the image includes: - **Base:** $26.86 - **Tip:** π (which we know is approximately 3.14) So, the total calculation would be: \[ 26.86 + 3.14 = 30.00 \] Thus, the total is $30.00, as shown on the receipt.
