@_daveharrison @EricIdle I hope so, Dave! Meeting Mr. Idle and getting books signed on his “Road to Mars” and “Greedy Bastard Diary” publicity tours years ago are such happy memories for me. Still, if the only option this time around is a signed edition from the publisher, I’ll take it (and gladly)!

March 25, 1923 The San Luis Obispo mentions Buster Keaton in “The Blacksmith”: "As in previous efforts, young Keaton keeps the humor in The Blacksmith revolving at high speed. The comedy itself bears that stamp of artistic slapstick that marks all of Buster's smile reels."

"A Fish called Wanda" (1988)- A movie that's so funny that a man literally laughed himself to death while watching this scene: In 1989, when "A Fish called Wanda" (1988) was shown in theaters in Denmark, a Danish man named Ole Bentzen, an audiologist, literally laughed himself to death during the scene where Ken [Sir Michael Palin] gets the chips up his nose. Bentzen's heart rate went between two hundred fifty and five hundred beats per minute and he eventually succumbed to cardiac arrest. The story behind this is that the man had made a joke a few years earlier with his family during dinner, where he put a piece of cauliflower up his and every family member's nose as a joke and made a bet with them on who could eat up their carrots without the cauliflower falling out. When the scene with Ken Pile and the chips came up, he started thinking about this dinner incident and laughed so hard that his heart stopped. This story is well-known in Scandinavia and spread around as almost an "urban legend" shortly after it happened. It was confirmed by his son, who also told the dinner story as an explanation to why his father laughed so hard during the chips scene that he died. In 2018, John Cleese too confirmed it. In his interview to Vanity Fair, he said, "He [Ole Bentzen] started laughing after about 15 minutes in, and literally never stopped. We tried to contact his widow, because we wondered about using this in the publicity. I think we decided it was in too bad taste. I mean, we all have to go. And I think laughing yourself to death is a nice way to do it." (Source: IMDb and quote from "“Just a Concoction of Nonsense”: The Oral History of A Fish Called Wanda", Darryn King, Vanity Fair, 2018)

Take it from me, there's nothing like a job well done. Except the quiet enveloping darkness at the bottom of a bottle of Jim Beam after a job done any way at all.

The Man Who Went Shopping For Dining Chairs and Accidentally Bought Stonehenge. On September 21, 1915, a British barrister named Cecil Chubb was given a very simple task by his wife, Mary. She sent him to a local auction in Salisbury with strict instructions: buy a nice set of dining chairs for their home. But as Chubb sat in the auction house, he got distracted. "Lot 15" came up for sale, a 30-acre plot of land featuring a crumbling, dilapidated ring of ancient rocks. The bidding was incredibly sluggish, and on a complete whim, Chubb raised his hand. When the gavel fell, he had just purchased Stonehenge for £6,600 (roughly $800,000 today). He proudly presented the 5,000-year-old megalithic wonder to his wife as a surprise "birthday present." Mary was absolutely furious. She didn't want a pile of ancient rocks; she wanted her dining chairs. Three years later, tired of his wife’s complaints and realizing the immense historical weight of his impulse purchase, Chubb donated the entire monument to the British government. He attached one strict condition: the public must always have access to it. Today, it stands protected forever, all because a husband couldn't stick to a shopping list.

Here’s a little Circus Boy clip that makes me laugh for reasons that probably weren’t obvious at the time. Let’s just say young Micky had a few things to learn about drums. Sometimes life slips in a joke before you’re in on it. #CircusBoy #MickyDolenz #TheMonkees
