The word "humane" was removed from the directive's preamble. Not reinterpreted. Not qualified. Removed from the document that governs how ICE agents handle immigrant parents when making detention and deportation decisions. The revised directive is still called the Detained Parents Directive. Brookings: 100,000+ American citizen children with a parent detained. The administration doesn't track it. ProPublica found Trump is deporting four times as many mothers of American children per day as Biden. DHS sends the same statement it has given all year: ICE "does not separate families." The directive that used to instruct agents to treat immigrant parents humanely has been edited to disagree.

New: Far more American children have likely been separated from their parents during immigration sweeps than previously understood, according to a new Brookings report that estimated more than 100,000 kids have had a parent detained under Trump. propub.li/3PuS0d2

This is exactly, EXACTLY my concern with the current state of our politics. We need to trust that politicians are voting based on what they believe is best for the country — not blind loyalty or reelection pressure. If Bill Cassidy is only switching his vote on this critical War Powers Resolution after losing his primary, that's a freaking problem. The President has way too much power over Congress.

I’m in Alabama with a family of four. We have a mortgage on a house that’s now valued at $320,000 the same house was worth just $160,000 in 2018. The reality most people miss: We haven’t changed our lifestyle one bit in the last six years. We’ve lived responsibly. Yet every month we’re forced to cut back more and more. In our area plants/factories are closing all the time, good-paying jobs are disappearing, and most of the remaining manufacturing work around here tops out around $25 an hour. I’m getting my usual 2% annual raise while everything else keeps getting more expensive. This isn’t about young people just starting out and learning to budget. This is about responsible, working families who were doing fine, paying bills, raising kids, living within their means and now having to live like we did in our 20s. We’re watching the country head in the wrong direction, worrying about whether our children will even have a shot at the same life we had. And the most frustrating part? We’re constantly told “the economy has never been better.” That disconnect is real. We’re not asking for luxury. We just want to maintain the modest, responsible life we built, without having to keep tightening the belt every single year while being gaslit that everything is fine.

terrible. 20 yrs ago, the internet was full of hobbyist blogs and forums. over time, these have been replaced by paywalled substacks and private discord channels, each a walled garden. google's decision to prioritize AI just makes it less likely ppl will create free, public info

This is not only absolutely awful, but a surefire way to kill access and flow of legitimate information. (Maybe that's the plan?) 1: Cannibalize human-written content for your "AI" 2: Prioritize LLM generated results, even with hallucinations and lack of reliability, deprioritize human-written content 3: Human written content fades because it can't get eyes on it, so what's the point anymore 4: AI can only pull from other AI content, all information is now unreliable, people give up. Honest to god, switching back to Webrings and Linkchains might be our best bet here. And books, of course. Massive corporations killed the beauty of having all the world's information at your fingertips. Thanks Google.

Remember: it was like pulling teeth to get Republicans to fund the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund. But it took them no time at all to create a $1.8 billion Insurrection Slush Fund to pay off the legal fees of the January 6th rioters who beat cops. These are sick, corrupt people.

There it is. With Massie’s defeat, If you’re against pedophiles and child trafficking, if you oppose illegal wars of aggression or even MILDLY criticize Israel, there is no place for you in the Republican Party. That is now a fact. The fascist terrorist imperialist death cult is doing what it does. The cult is culting.

Just throwing it out there that the lane is wiiiiiiiiide open for a tech company to get insanely rich by just replicating the 2010 version of big websites like Google while explicitly stating that they hate AI.

The BARE MINIMUM you do to a criminal defense lawyer who signs a non-prosecution agreement with HIS OWN CLIENT is disbar him. But that is insufficient for Todd Blanche, who took an OFFICIAL ACTION as acting AG as part of a BRIBE to hold his job permanently. He must be indicted.

The "falsely reporting a crime" charge against Castro completes the picture. Not only did the agent allegedly shoot the victim - he allegedly filed a false report about what happened. That's the charge that explains why the federal government's three-minute account became a 12-second video. Federal investigators blocked state agents from the investigation after the first joint interview. The FBI excluded them. The agents' names were withheld for months. Two U.S. citizens killed in the same operation. Investigation into Renee Good's death redirected to investigate her partner's activism. Several prosecutors resigned rather than comply. Hennepin County is now investigating 30+ additional incidents. The charging document is public. The video exists.

Section 5 of the 1965 Voting Rights Act basically said, based on their history, we cannot trust southern states to do right by black voters. Therefore, any changes to voting laws had to be approved by the federal government. As soon as the Supreme Court declared racism over, southern states could not wait to get back to extreme racism. If they think we are going to sit back and let them take us back, they are sadly mistaken. Be careful what you ask for.

Abel Potenciano is 64 years old and a grandfather. He just spent days in a police station helping detectives solve the brutal murder of his own daughter. The moment he finished his statement, the same officers he trusted to find her killer handed him over to ICE. He has no criminal record and has built a life here for over 30 years, raising four U.S. citizen children. Because of a 1997 administrative deportation order, the system weaponized a father’s grief to facilitate an arrest. When helping the police catch a murderer ends with a one-way ticket to a detention center, the system isn't protecting the public—it’s ensuring that the next witness stays silent. If a 64-year-old grandfather can’t report his daughter’s murder without being hunted by the people he’s helping, why would anyone ever call 911 again? #DemsUnited
