Animation question: For a shot like this, were those foreground elements painted 'out of focus', or were they actually photographed out of focus?

@campbellwhyte I've been thinking about why it looks wrong to me. Using a camera in a complex setting the composition is simplified and unnecessary detail is removed using narrow depth of field. This helps guide the eye. In illustration the information can be simplified by illustrative means.

@LouieJoyce @campbellwhyte yeah I like it. Spider verse is composed in 3d which as far as composition goes, is more like, using a camera. I'm all for depth of field in 3d.
