Historical Context Matches the Graphic—but the graphic itself Explains the “Anomaly” The graphic correctly cites prior Massie primaries where opponents combined received low totals: • 2020: Opponent Todd McMurtry got 16,092 votes of the 84,683 total • 2022: Opponents (Claire Wirth + others) got 16,573 votes of the 66,874 total • 2024: Opponents got 12,664 votes of the 52,593 total The problem is… These were typical low-engagement, incumbent-favorable primaries where Massie often faced very weak or multiple minor challengers and cruised to easy wins (frequently 75%+). Turnout was modest because there was little national drama or mobilization. 🔻 This 2026 was completely different… This was the most expensive U.S. House primary in history (~$30–35+ million in ads/spending). Trump personally endorsed and pushed Gallrein hard. JD Vance, Pete Hegseth, etc. even traveled to the state. There was Massive outside spending (including ~$9M+ from pro-Israel groups like AIPAC targeting voters —— you already know how I feel about that. It’s wrong. But Massie did it too. Gallrein’s 57k votes represent a surge in a mobilized electorate—not “40,000 votes out of nowhere.” The “1 in 200 Probability” Claim Is Statistically Nonsense. The graphic’s math assumes prior low-turnout opponent totals (~12k–16.5k) represent a fixed “normal” random baseline, making 57k+ wildly improbable. The fact is Massie underperformed in key populous northern Kentucky counties (Boone, Kenton, Campbell) where turnout and ad impact were highest. The fact is President Trump’s MAGA voters showed up when called upon and it proves MAGA is very strong in Kentucky and President Trump is still at the reigns. Massie can still request a recount. He has until May 29 to file. Under KRS 120.095, any candidate voted for in a Kentucky primary may petition the circuit court for a recount within ten days of the election. There is no vote-percentage threshold and no closeness requirement. The candidate posts bond, the State Board of Elections is named defendant, and the ballots and voting equipment are transferred into court custody for retabulation. The 50% threshold some are citing applies to election contests under KRS 120.055, a separate proceeding. A recount is not a contest. I have filed supplemental Open Records Act requests targeting the absentee ballot universe in the May 19 contest between Ed Gallrein and Thomas Massie. The most expensive House primary in U.S. history, funded by Paul Singer, Miriam Adelson, and John Paulson through MAGA Kentucky (FEC C00908723), deserves a tabulation the public can verify. Especially amidst ballot discrepancies. Massie has the standing. The window closes May 29.
