One thing ‘70s R&B/Soul, disco, and funk understood is that great songs sometimes needed to be 7 minutes or longer. The arrangements would slowly build until every instrument felt perfectly locked in and the groove reached its peak. A lot of modern songs end before they ever get to that feeling.
