I once worked with a senior backend engineer who believed that the strongest backend systems were the ones where logic is written more on the database layer than on the code layer. The normal if-else statement you would write to check a users balance, bro writes all that logic directly on the DB, there were triggers, database functions etc. Bro was literally coding with SQL. At that point I didn’t know SQL could even do all that. Bro would review my code then and ask me why was I writing all that logic in code when it could reside directly on the db😂. This was way before AI and bro would prefer to write every single thing by hand rather than install a package, he felt they were not secure. Bro uses a framework just to repurpose it and customize everything! At The point working with bro, he was almost 40. Man! I’ve worked with cracked devs, and I’m grateful for every experience that has shaped me.

just an update 👺
so i’m moving back to building a one person company again for some time, and honestly it feels a bit like being back at day 0. not in a bad way tho, more like returning to the starting point with a completely different mind this time.
this is fully a personal choice. i just feel this strong need to slow things down a little and learn again properly. there’s still so many things around hiring, people, systems, psychology, businesses and even myself that i wanna understand deeply firsthand before trying to scale anything bigger around it.
right now my curiosity feels louder than growth itself. i don’t just wanna build for the sake of building anymore, i wanna sit close to the work again. think deeply, experiment more, struggle through things myself, make mistakes, study random shit at 3am and reconnect with why i even started all this in the first place.
sometimes when you build too fast, you slowly drift away from the actual craft itself. and i think i felt that somewhere. so maybe this phase is less about external growth and more about sharpening myself again from the ground up. just me, the work, the uncertainty and that weird beautiful feeling of starting from nothing once again.

@patrickaigbogun @TosinOlugbenga a window function is what i will use on each row to calculate the balance after each transaction (per row) to return in my final output.
i guess you could think of it as a kind of “for loop” in SQL, although i don’t know if that’s a good analogy

Once they see you've done a few things.. even minor, they'll value you over someone who has 1 or 2 major things, why because to them it's all the same, they're only concerned with their problem being solved

it seems sideprojectmaxxing no longer is useful as a way to advance ur career.
It's almost an anti-signal to me atp.
I'd much rather work with someone who has made 1 to 2 things very delicately and with close inspection over every detail than someone who's pumped out 100 semi interesting projects.

During my learning phase I used a 4GB Dell laptop… ran npm install, went to the market, came back and it was still installing 😂
That same laptop used to shock me when plugged in 😭
