If I do not see video of some sort of chant related to IMF bailouts/Trump handouts I will have lost all respect for England as a soccering nation

@GusSaltonstall Just rode my bike down 72nd, in the block between Columbus and Amsterdam I spent more time looking over my shoulder at cars than looking where I was going (ie looking out for pedestrians) These geniuses are suing to prevent something that would make crossing the street safer

Six disabled residents of West 72nd St. have filed a lawsuit against the city in an effort to stop the 72nd St. 2-way bike lane proposal, arguing that it unlawfully discriminates against them as disabled individuals because it would impair their access to West 72nd Street

@theiaincameron Me when the England-Argentina fun fact is that it’s the only World Cup matchup between 2 countries actively engaged in a territorial dispute

France v Spain is the World Cup's only match between two European teams who have ancient non-Indo-European languages spoken in their countries. The Basque language is at least 4,000 years old, and is still spoken in parts of southern France and northern Spain. Stay tuned for more cutting-edge, geography-based World Cup analysis.

Getting outclassed by Mexico at our co-hosted World Cup during the Mexican soccer darkages while our own player-pool is in the middle of a renaissance in Europe is like detonating a million neutrino “dos a cero’s” in every zip code in the entire country

If USMNT loses tonight this World Cup is an unequivocal failure, for which every participant in the entire country’s soccer ecosystem is responsible, top down, from Cindy Cone all the way down to lil Suzy playing U7s at schutte park

How many more crashes, injuries and horse deaths need to occur before @NYCMayor #Mamdani fulfills his campaign promise to ban horse-drawn carriages? Today, a passenger jumped (or fell) out of a moving carriage, a child was dumped onto the asphalt when the carriage flipped over and at least one person had injuries serious enough to go to the hospital. Mayor Mamdani: please do the right thing.

@ethan_sears Order of events is a bit backwards and it’s not the WC but: Ukraine (Euro 2020 quarterfinalist) bombed Gazprom (Euro 2020 sponsor) literally last night

Surely a World Cup first that a match is sponsored by a company whose facility was bombed by one of the countries playing in the match

Exhibit A: Alabama, a fan base and program completely pacified by participation in the playoff, their games have no stakes bc the threshold for success has been lowered so far from where it was when Saban first took over

Under the BCS/4team every single week was a high wire act where you had to continue winning while also hoping others would lose, producing tons of week to week variation and implications Now a coach just has to win 8 games every year to appease boosters and get keep their job

Refs aren’t blameless ofc, they were losing control of games up until this one, but when each teams best player (wemby/brunson) are bad defenders/certified hacks, you’re inevitably walking a razor thin wire to keep the game under control without throwing sand in the gears

wemby game 3 cheap shot aside, all 8m people in NYC seem to have forgotten that the spurs were vastly superior to the Knicks all season and then decided the refs were at fault when laws of averages started coming into play
