In my opening remarks at #NDSS18 today, I took a few minutes to talk about the process we took as a Program Committee to build the program. My goal is to increase transparency and improve the academic reviewing experience. (long thread) 1/

I've seen a lot of people asking "why does everyone think Twitter is doomed?" As an SRE and sysadmin with 10+ years of industry experience, I wanted to write up a few scenarios that are real threats to the integrity of the bird site over the coming weeks.

A buddy who's interested in end-to-end encryption (E2EE) but hasn't done one of these projects in the very messy place which is the real world happened to ask me this morning about pitfalls which might not be obvious. So here's a partial list in the hopes that it's helpful. 🧵

@shawnshan_ @matthew_d_green Tough to navigate, though. Three days of conferences from 8am-6pm is already a lot. Longer days? More of them? Not sure how we do this and still meaningfully interact with each other.

@mzurko @matthew_d_green But without the publication to go with it, right? I haven't been able to attend Enigma yet, but have been to RWC.

@matthew_d_green "If they're well prepared" is so crucial. Maybe we should move to a more curated model - take papers like a journal but have the best presentations at the conference.

@patrickgtraynor I guess I don’t find videos to be a very effective way to convey information, but maybe that’s just me. Live talks (if they’re well-prepared) have an immediacy that makes the format worthwhile. Otherwise just make an accessible text blog post.
