I love how Elon’s daughter, Vivian Jenna Wilson is enjoying her best life while her haters remain miserable souls. It’s absolutely beautiful!! 😍

@RealToddGaines One of my favourite films ever. And yes, it's definitely a 70s movie, made in early 80s. One of the last ones of that type. The 80s style didn't properly start at that point.

Although released in 1981, there's nothing 80s about Nighthawks: a dirty, gritty, and violent 70s action flick. Way more French Connection than Lethal Weapon. The musical score sounds straight outta a 70s Italian EuroSleaze flick. I love dirty late 70s NYC

@alejandroxpadi I love Strange Days but often wonder if it’s been buried because they are worried its version of 1999 was about a century off (which I think is part of its charm), but is kind of amusing giving that it was only 4 years away 😂

@DavidShann29662 @AvPOdysseyDB Aside from that, I can't remember anything wrong with the film, and I saw it around 200 times in the last 40 years. It's as close to perfect as possible, but perfect films don't exist, of course.

@patrixilent @AvPOdysseyDB You are right, if the men in that panic situation are thinking coherently. But paranoia doesn't make for straight logic. I like the hole. It's not neat.

@DavidShann29662 @AvPOdysseyDB No sense. With buildings kept their chances of survival were slightly higher. And even if we say "Maybe MacReady was the thing" - after he presented that plan, the others should have said "Hey, wait a minute now..." and pointed their flamethrowers at him. It's just a plot hole.

@patrixilent @AvPOdysseyDB Good point. I'd be too stressed to think logically though. I'm in the "let's burn down our home!" camp! 😅

@DavidShann29662 @AvPOdysseyDB In short, I have a beef with that whole "Let's burn the camp down to mess with the alien" plan. The alien could have just frozen outside of the camp, or in it after it burned down. They only fucked themselves, alien was unaffected. A plot hole.

@patrixilent @AvPOdysseyDB Gotcha. Occasionally I don't mind if some plots are left with seeming holes though, saves the road from feeling overly paved. There are films in recent years which are so tightly constructed that the story doesn't have a chance to breathe. The Thing feels more real, less perfect.

@E0_DS0_Omega @Variety A fan knowing every bit of Star Wars lore does not make them George Lucas. Nor does it give them ANY writing talent.

NEW 'LORD OF THE RINGS' MOVIE Stephen Colbert is co-writing "The Lord of the Rings: Shadow of the Past" (working title), which will go into production after "The Hunt for Gollum." The synopsis: "Fourteen years after the passing of Frodo - Sam, Merry, and Pippin set out to retrace the first steps of their adventure. Meanwhile, Sam’s daughter, Elanor, has discovered a long-buried secret and is determined to uncover why the War of the Ring was very nearly lost before it even began." Colbert is co-writing the script with his son, Peter McGee, and franchise veteran Philippa Boyens. variety.com/2026/film/news…

@patrixilent @AvPOdysseyDB And the difference between the endings is a crucial dividing point for me as to ascertaining the better horror film. Alien has a great climax, not so much an interesting coda. The Thing holds up & extends the horror to the very last shot (even if only on a psychological level).
