@paulfnolan_ EV mins is your season EV based on actual minutes played, xMin is based on the default(xMins) at deadline per FPL review.
So if Haaland plays 95 minutes, you will get his 95min EV in the Min EV but his xMin may have only been say, 84.

An 8th season of FPL has concluded.
Very happy to get a third top 5k in a row and a fifth top 50k in a row.

@BauFpl Cheers. Would you ever be concerned you are playing a game of maximising your EV rather than overall rank? Or perhaps focusing too much on data?
I have a significantly worse EV rank versus my OR. I am trying to understand the line between that being a positive or a negative?

English

Ultimately data ranks show the optimality of your decisions. We want to get a good rank. How can you achieve that? -by making good decisions. If your data rank is good, then that’s a great indicator that you played well.
Variance exists. There’re scenarios where someone has an incredible data rank but finishes >500k and the opposite is as well. So it adds objectivity to measure how well you played.

Season Review (1/2)
An incredible season has come to a close. I've met so many amazing new people who helped me along the way, and I’ve also managed to grow a lot personally. Just when I think there's not much room left for me to improve in this game, entirely new perspectives, strategies, and mindsets open up. I’ve always been more interested in the math and philosophy of the game than simply which player to put in, and my goal is to further research and understand this moving forward. Up next: World Cup Fantasy.
Finally, I owe a huge thank you to the following:
-@SolioAnalytics: I had the chance to take part in testing before the start of the season, and since then I have a much better understanding of how a model works. It was also one of the cornerstones of my decision-making this year.
-@fplreview: My most important decision-making tool.
-@SynergyFPL: I joined mid-season and I’m still incredibly grateful for it. It felt amazing to be part of the best Analytics Mini-League in the world, filled with brilliant and helpful people.
Lastly, I’d like to thank everyone who supported the content I tried to deliver consistently and precisely. If that wasn't enough and anyone needed personalized help, I was always available and tried to explain everything accurately (completely for free, of course). Thank you!

@fpl_thomas__ Thanks, Thomas. Makes sense! One further thing - what is the difference between EV mins and xMins please?
English

@paulfnolan_ Hi Paul! simply off the basis that EV is the best predictor of future outcomes in FPL and I want to do as well as possible EV wise, to give myself the best shot at a low OR.
English

@BauFpl Congrats mate. If your overall goal is rank then why do you measure your success against EV metrics, please? I also use data but I don’t understand the review of the season being measured against expected data. Is that because your other objective is to learn the maths, please?
English

Thank you, that means a lot! And of course. I don't usually go into it with ultra-specific goals, but I think a baseline of Top 50k and an ambitious Top 10k are good targets. After seeing my EV ranks, I was hoping to break into the Top 100, but because of a few unlucky outcomes, my rmEV rank didn't quite make it. I think my xMinEV would have gotten me there, but I accidentally started O’Reilly in GW38. 😆
But my main goal is always to learn more about the math of the game (probability, statistics etc.) and the philosophy behind decision-making, and I definitely succeeded in that!

Season Review (2/2)
📊
Top 175 in both realized and expected Mins EV.
1587 xG rank.
98.2% Transfer xP Optimality.
These data-driven ranks are very important to me because I think they show the quality of our decisions, rather than just what actually happened. I can consider myself a bit lucky this season, with a +16 positive variance.
After a weak start, WC6 was the best decision of my season. Following that with some highlights, it was Keane and Enzo in GW9, Thiago and Timber in GW11, and Foden in GW13 (although it came at the expense of FH13, and FH14 ended up being my worst week of the season). Szoboszlai and Van Dijk were absolute heroes in the mid-season, while bringing Schade in was clearly my worst transfer. After that, I stagnated for a long time, and I couldn't get the big rank jump I expected after WC32. Overall, I’m happy with my strategy and plan to play similarly (but better) in the future.

@Jumpthewave Hi Emma. Thanks for all your hard work on the predictions. For what it’s worth my Arsenal XI is: Kepa, Salmon, Mosquera, Hincapie, MLS, Zubimendi, Merino, Madueke, Odegaard, Martinelli, Haverts
English

@FPL_Bronx Thanks, Thomas. I have started testing Solio Analytics the past few weeks as it allows users to adjust so many aspects of the data. Am I correct in thinking you believe building my own model would still be a big step up?
English

First of all, thank you.
There are too many aspects to this part for a short tweet, but one of them is understanding the underlying elements of a prediction.
I think the best way to obtain that knowledge is building (and probably re-building a couple times) your own model. Even though your model isn't perfect, this will help you understand how to reverse engineer commercial models and their underlying assumptions (or maybe biases) and whether you agree with those.
There is a lot to cover on longer horizon planning where fixtures, transfers, injuries etc. can create butterfly effects and you can create options if you get lucky with certain events or have the option to adjust in case of "unlucky" events. That can also be other ways than just "chill at 5 FTs". Not so much in play in the final weeks of the season, but very important for GW1 and preparing into DGW/BGW season.
English

@FPL_Dynamo I don’t believe Palace will rotate in this one as their final isn’t until after GW38
English

@goonerwager @femster82 That sucks James. Hope we both get one from the standby list
English

@paulfnolan_ @femster82 Supporters club. Been with them over 25 years. Many aways in that time. Seems to be forgotten.
Really hard to take when you put in so much time.
English

@goonerwager @femster82 Hi mate. Sorry to hear you are in stand by. Same with me. As you go to away matches in Europe why did you not qualify for window 1?
English

@femster82 Course it is, all season we've travelled and put the miles in Europe which is Uefa. Then u get to the final and be told it operates differently.
How is it any different to having 6 season tickets in 1 persons name?
Its a joke.
English

@DarrenArsenal1 @DarrenArsenal1 sorry to hear that mate. Did you do them as a group or 6 individually please?
English

@themagic_tophat @CWrighty7 Yeah. UEFA sent me the allocate seat I got from there neutrals ballot
English

@DarrenArsenal1 I am on standby. Was also on standby for the CC cup and never got one
English

@themagic_tophat @CWrighty7 Must be on the neutral tickets not Arsenal end as we have our allocated seats in there
