@nysuri @DacreJane @TheBMA Pay scale reform is definitely an improvement. Not sure where this “it’s worse” has come from. It’s not. If you think it is - explain how it’s worse. Shorter pay scales are better for pay equality. Shorter time to top of pay scale is better for all. Is it good enough though?

@nysuri I am independent of HM government and @TheBMA. My legitimate interest is in reducing a large pay gap of 12.7 % to benefit current and future women doctors.

@paygapsmedics @CarolWoodhams1 The rate of reduction of the pay gap would speed up if there were fewer spine points.

Gender pay gap in medicine, three years after our ground-breaking review in 2020, shows reduction to 12.8%, however there's still a lot of work to do. Modernising consultant pay scales is one way to help it on its way. @DacreJane @CarolWoodhams1

@paygapsmedics At the moment the Gender Pay Gap in Medicine doesn’t start to reduce until the age of 67. Women’s pay lags after having children. The motherhood penalty. Reducing the spine points in the proposed consultant contract would help address this.

13/ Progress between the pay points will be subject to a performance review. This is mostly based on existing contractual provisions in Sch 15 (job planning, appraisal) and sch 4/6 (private practice and professional Fees).

12/ These changes will modernise the payscale and making significant progress in addressing the gender pay gap. A minority of consultants will not get an additional pay uplift (they still get the 6% from 23/24 and the 24/25 award) but will benefit from faster pay progression

The gap in medicine has reduced from around 18% to 12% since the Mind the Gap report came out in 2020. More to do, but it is a start.@paygapsmedics @DHSC @TheBMA @MWF @AoMRC @NHSHEE_NEY

@hormone_doc @mancunianmedic @JennyAspin @JaneDacre Agree, Helen. Meaningful comparisons across occupational groups does depend on the same methodology applied to all. There are many “versions” / outcomes of the GPG depending on the basis of calculation. We had to make decisions early on which had most validity.
