Everyone wants to blame fertility declines on their pet issues.
The WORLD has dropping fertility. Danes have gobs of equality and government help, and their fertility is below ours. Japan is rich and safe, and theirs is lower.
This is a wealth problem, not a poverty problem.

They still don’t get it. It’s not just the expense. It’s the disbelief that your kid will have a good life. It’s the threats against women’s rights. It’s the lack of equality in relationships STILL. It’s the inability to find a quality partner. It’s the maternal mortality rates. It’s climate concerns. It’s war concerns. Its rule of law concerns. And that 100% does trace back to political decisions being made in DC by both parties.

With the requisite caveats that there are plenty of people who shouldn’t marry young, and others who would like to but can’t, I heartily second Caitlin here. I married my wife at 22 and the last 15 years have been an insane, hilarious, difficult, romantic, exciting adventure.

@lymanstoneky The "house before kids" one is interesting. When we had kids "did we own a house" was the furthest question from our minds. Whether we had finished our advanced degrees did seem relevant (my wife had 6 months of her masters left when our first was born... and finished on time).

The place of housing is kinda interesting right so the survey also asks women if housing prices/rent have been a factor influencing fertility, and it turns out, yes. Women who say house-before-kids are WAY more likely to report housing prices as an issue impacting family.

Weird solution, FWIW:
— Export XD doc to PDF (requires desktop app).
— Use online tool to convert pages to JPEGs.
— Import one JPEG to PPT, then place/transform.
— Duplicate slide, replace JPEG with subsequent one.
— Repeat for every page.
— Sigh deeply, roll eyes, grab drink. 🙃
