Devils in the details: strict selection criteria ("to enable the selection of patients most likely having a single adhesive band"), study population average BMI <25, <10% had DM, no mention of Tob. Cool study, but this doesn't reflect my average patient...give me laparoscopy!

Laparoscopic adhesiolysis for #SmallBowelObstruction was not superior to open surgery for long-term recurrence, incisional hernia incidence, or quality of life at 5-year follow-up, confirming both as viable options. ja.ma/4c6H4eO

More in-line with surgeon work related issues are talks at @PCSAsurg : A large @AmCollSurgeons survey of surgeons reported by @UCSFSurgery team and medical student Saffanat Sumra addressed surgeon workload. The greatest predictor of feeling overworked or burnt out is based on years in practice (pivots at 30yrs), and then #hours worked (pivots at 66hours 😮 in under 30yrs and 45 hours in over 30yrs in practice). Anyone else agree? And why are we abusing our surgeons so much? #PCSA2026

Surgeons: Noticed you hurt after a day in the OR? @pihaigh and his team evaluated this nicely on @PCSAsurg . Results? - every part of the body hurts more after an OR day than non-OR day - robotics has more wrist pain - laparoscopy has more upper back pain - open surgery has more lower back and neck pain How can we right this wrong? #PCSA2026

@EricKnauerMD @SAGES_Updates Everyone talks about CVS, but not strategy to get there. Video shows danger of “infundibulum first” approach, you can end up dissecting medial to the CBD. CVS per se does not prevent this. Here’s the “body first” approach I use to prevent this error: youtu.be/SzKvgE8YyE0?si…

A panel session at The American Association for the Surgery of Trauma 2024 annual meeting sponsored by the AAST Healthcare Economics Committee was held to discuss making the case for the value of ACS locally, and how to effectively communicate your case to hospital leadership. @philkimmd @pbatesmurphy @dianehaddadmd @DavidASpain @DrJtrauma #JoTACS #TraumaSurg #SurgTwitter #SoMe4Surgery #MedTwitter #MedEd #EmergencyMedicine journals.lww.com/jtrauma/abstra…

How many patients on the trauma service is too many? How many patients can a single surgeon see? What about when they have resident/APP support? ICU patients? See what the current national opinion is from an EAST multicenter survey by Wilson et al: bit.ly/4i6YCbz

Huge lift by many acute care surgeons around the country and superstar resident Dr. Danielle Wilson - hopefully generates discussion to move the needle with thoughtful systems of care and workforce planning in Acute Care Surgery
