@MJGold I like it - how does it end if you if they continue to match going down in height? Going down in heights turns it into waiting for someone to fail instead of celebrating someone excelling at something. More common? It will lose impact but still a great display of sportsmanship

@MJGold Coverage could improve for sure but HJ & PV are 2 of the most watchable and exciting events going - IMO the horizontal jumps & throws don’t have enough jeopardy - you can sit down halfway through and miss the winning jump throw etc not good in today’s gotta have it now world

I think there’s a reluctance by many in the sport to acknowledge that field events are a problem. See question and answers below. The problems: 1) Average person can’t easily appreciate the great athleticism and skill of field events. 2) They take too long, with too many pauses in the action. 3) The rules are complicated and difficult to quickly understand 4) Difficult to compare competitors efforts against one another (competition). Result: In a sport where multiple events take place simultaneously, field events will always take a back seat to track races, and the great field event athletes will too. It’s easy to just blame “the powers that be” for not simply promoting or showing them more. But the reality is these events have an inherent disadvantage and unless they’re changed this will continue.
