IMPORTANT UPDATE: AD sources around Amritsar are telling me today’s Pakistani drone attack employed totally different tactics. Yesterday they flew very low and were engaged mostly by guns. Today they flew high in an attempt to be engaged by our medium/long range missiles, clearly to deplete our stocks. Why? I guess it’s because they intend a heavy strike soon with aircraft. Lacking serious defence suppression, they’re resorting to swarms to exhaust our ammo across all range categories

I never thought Zakir Hussain was mortal. In fact I always thought that Time had bypassed him and left him in the realm of everlasting youth. I remember seeing him multiple times in the different music halls of Dadar and Matunga - in Karnataka sangh and Ravindra Natya Mandir, once or twice in Dadar Matunga Cultural Centre. I saw him perform live a number of times - sometimes solo and sometimes accompanying another artist and he was different in both those roles. He was different when he played in Remembering Shakti and he was different when he played for masses and different when he played for connoisseurs and different when he played in front of other artistes. He was different when he played Inder Lal in ‘Heat and Dust’ and different when he played Himaan in ‘Saaz’. He was different when he spoke in the Google town hall and different when he spoke while felicitating senior tabla players like Pt. Sudhir Mainkar. He was different when he played with Hariharan for Haazir and different when he composed for The Elements - Space. But two things that remained the same in all his different avatars was his unquestionable genius and his genuine humility that sprung out of the realisation of his own genius. There will be great tabla players in future and genius musicians but there will never be another Ustad Zakir Hussain. Om Shanti.
