Grace and Strength... Our community has been hit by a devastating tragedy that we are still in the early stages of beginning to understand the breadth and depth of. We know that there has been a tragic loss of life, loss of homes, and loss of a sense of security. We are very sensitive to the trauma our students, staff, and families have suffered. We know that we will be providing support for the days, weeks, and months to come. We have been working hard all weekend supporting emergency services. We are honored to help and are doing our part. Our Transportation Staff has been heroic in their efforts sending out buses to support evacuations before and after the storm arrived, driving fuel trucks to fuel emergency vehicles, and being fully present for law enforcement and emergency services. Our Facilities team is surveying our schools to begin to assess facility damage and setting up places for responders from across the state and beyond to sleep. I have been onsite throughout working with the County Manager, the Sheriff, and the Emergency Management Director, ensuring that the school system is helping in every way possible. Like most of Western North Carolina, we do not have water, power, and only spotty cell phone service. As our county leaders have stated, this event is historic in magnitude. For my friends across the state who have reached out to offer help and support, thank you! We will be communicating the best way to help as we move forward. Rene is safe with family. For our neighbors and friends, for our students and teammates, and for our beautiful community, we ask that you join us in prayer. We are capable and we will meet the challenges ahead of us. We will emerge from this stronger than ever. Grace and strength will carry us forward. We know that from even the greatest tragedy, still, #TogetherWeRise!
