If you can understand Japanese, or are in the process of learning how to do so, and you are also interested in anthropology/linguistics/archaeogenetics/prehistory, then I can highly recommend this channel. Videos have both good sources and good explanations for various topics.

The coolest Jomon artifact I know of is this stone axe where they try to imitate the character 生. Curious how they managed to see the original Chinese character in the first place, since this was from before the Yayoi migrated to Japan.

@taicosama Japanese people simply don't know the concept of a phonetic radical because they didn't need to, so they assume every radical is a semantic radical.

@favelaoverlord There's also Spearthrower Owl, who ruled Tenochtitlan and might even have conquered/dominated the Maya states.

Characters like Nezhualcoyotl stand in contrast to history as starkly as men like Caesar do. Nigh-unknown outside of niche academic circles.

The Nahua culture was an incredibly sophisticated one and the Aztec city states were nigh-equals of the Greeks in their mastery of architecture, complex artistic output, and philosophy.

Díaz’s description of conquistadors seeing Tenochtitlan—larger than any European city in the early 16th century—for the first time: "Some of our soldiers even asked if what we saw was not a dream…"

@PalmyrPar It's 100% obvious that he just watched that one scene from Hard Boiled and said "You know what, I'll make a game off of that", which is cool but for some reason he just can't admit it.

@US_of_Z USA leaving NATO is like Russia leaving the USSR, an absurdly retarded idea that might actually happen because the leadership is also that retarded.

Two points: 1- Then why are we asking them for help? 2- Why don't we finally leave NATO?

"Missiles and planes will have to be shaped like bald eagles from now on. You know how Viking ships had dragonheads? That's some cool shit right there. Actually no, fuck Vikings. Pagan scum. We hail Templars here. Where was I... Yeah, giant bald eagle heads on aircraft carriers."

@BombasUa The concept of a German monarchist not considering Russia his enemy is genuinely hilarious.

@Karajarati The only example I know of this happening in prehistory is Proto-Indo-European *séptm̥ potentially being from Proto-Semitic *sabʕ-, but this clearly isn't related to the example in the screenshot.

Every day, for the past 3 years on the way to work, my bus drove past an apartment with a Confederate flag hanging on the ceiling. 2 days ago, that flag has been replaced with the flag of Tajikistan(???). I really want to talk to whoever the hell is living in there.
