I’ve been working on a project called pdfnative - a zero‑dependency TypeScript PDF engine. It supports PDF/A, digital signatures, shaping (Arabic, Thai, Hebrew, CJK), and includes 140+ samples. If you're curious: pdfnative.dev #TypeScript #OpenSource

@naman686a0 Do you render (or want to) rich text during PDF generation? Like some subset of HTML?

1/8 A team member was creating payment receipts manually using Canva. Same design. Same format. Only values were changing every time. So I built an internal PDF automation tool for it. Small problem, but real workflow improvement.

Just shipped something I genuinely needed — 𝗖𝗹𝗼𝗮𝗸𝗣𝗗𝗙. A free, fully open source PDF toolkit that runs 100% in your browser. This was a multi-weekend project of mine, built with help from Claude along the way. 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗜 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀: I kept looking for a PDF tool that ticks three simple boxes: 1. Runs locally — my files should never be uploaded to a random server 2. Fully open source with no strings attached — no paywalls, no premium tiers, no daily limits 3. Has a UX that actually feels good to use Honestly, I could not find one tool that does all three. So I built it. CloakPDF gives you 35 PDF tools in one place — merge, split, compress, OCR, redact, sign, password protect, watermark, edit metadata, compare PDFs, and a lot more. Everything happens in your browser. Your files never leave your device. No uploads. No tracking. No analytics. No cookies. It is also a PWA, so it works offline after the first load. If you deal with sensitive documents — contracts, IDs, financial statements, medical reports — this is built for you. Privacy first, always. A small thought I keep coming back to — with how far LLMs have come, I genuinely believe we have a huge opportunity to contribute more to open source than ever before. Things that used to take months are now possible over a few weekends. That alone is a big shift. And this is just the start. I am already exploring how to integrate small, local LLMs into CloakPDF to make the experience even better — smarter OCR, document summaries, smart redaction, and more — all without sending your data anywhere. More on this soon. Honestly, I think personal computing is going to lean a lot more on local LLMs than cloud ones in the coming years, and data safety will be the biggest reason why. 𝗧𝗿𝘆 𝗶𝘁 → pdf.cloakyard.com 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲 → github.com/cloakyard/cloa… MIT licensed. Use it personally, use it at work, fork it, build on it. No strings attached. Would love to hear what you think. And if you find it useful, a star on GitHub means a lot. #OpenSource #PDF #Privacy #LocalLLM #SideProject

Glean@glean·
MCP standardizes tool connectivity, but context quality depends on what's underneath. That’s why we benchmarked Glean's remote MCP server against the off-the-shelf MCP servers in Claude Cowork across ~175 queries. We found: → Glean preferred ~2.5x as often than off-the-shelf MCP → Off-the-shelf MCP used 30% more tokens → When off-the-shelf won on correctness, it used 83k tokens vs. Glean's 43k, almost double

jsPDF for media kit generation was the wrong choice. 60-second render times, layout nightmares, and memory leaks with images. Should've gone with Puppeteer + HTML/CSS from day one. Sometimes the boring solution is the right one 🤦‍♂️ #webdev #typescript #devlog
