The 29-page report of the European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee, backed by MEPs from all sides, raises the alarm over a “party-state.” The report clearly speaks of the erasure of the line between state institutions and party structures.

Albania’s European integration must be based on merit, not on compromises with standards. Within the framework of the International Democracy Union (@idualliance) Forum in Zagreb, we held a meeting with the Prime Minister of Croatia, @AndrejPlenkovic. During this meeting, as part of our delegation led by @saliberisha_, we discussed the European integration process and political developments in Albania. Strong concerns were raised regarding democratic backsliding, the lack of free elections, corruption, and the influence of organized crime in the country. Mr. Berisha emphasized that the path toward the European Union must go through the genuine fulfillment of standards, not through approaches driven by geopolitical interests. Prime Minister Andrej Plenković reaffirmed #Croatia’s support for #Albania, underlining the importance of a merit-based process. In conclusion, both sides agreed to strengthen cooperation and exchange experiences, aiming to support democracy and the European future of Albania and the region. At the meeting, Prime Minister Plenković was accompanied by @ZdravkaBusic, Vice President of @HDZ_HR and MP; @AndroKrstulovic, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee and MP; @leko_tomislav, Deputy Head of the Prime Minister’s Office; and Tea Jerković, Advisor to the President of HDZ. Once again, the name of Edi Rama appears in an international court case, this time linked to allegations of contract killings. In a trial in England, where an Albanian national with a criminal record is seeking to avoid extradition, the names of Albania’s Prime Minister and Interior Minister Taulant Balla have surfaced. According to reports from a British newspaper, the individual claimed that his rivals carried out contract killings allegedly connected to the highest levels of government in Albania. This raises a fundamental question: How is it possible that the name of Albania’s Prime Minister keeps appearing in such serious contexts, from criminal files to international courtrooms? Because this is not the first time. * His name appeared in the McGonigal case in the United States * It surfaced in another trial in Florida * It has been mentioned in proceedings in Belgium * Linked to reports of questionable international meetings * And even to individuals connected to the notorious Sinaloa Cartel How many times does this pattern have to repeat before it stops being called a coincidence?! This is not about isolated incidents. This is about a pattern.
