Interesting expression. Short answer, “yes.” The doctrine of the imputation of the active obedience of Christ clearly has been propped up by various creedal and confessional formulations, so I understand all the hubbub from Reformed folk. The problem is, the doctrine isn’t exegetically-derived from Scripture. While there are many who cite Scripture in their attempts to articulate their support of the IAOC doctrine, the study of the history of the doctrine (running in parallel with the post-Reformational development of covenant theology) proves quite interesting, as it reveals how clouded certain theological lenses have become.
