@AbleismWatch @viciws Plus regards access. I really need support. You get compared to those others with same condition, that often say they don't need support regards access, which in turn makes life very difficult. Can make those believe that person with less needs is less expensive,

@peachyaze @viciws You lost me with the “without diagnosis” part, because neurodivergent self-diagnosis is valid. Official diagnosis is inaccessible to many people, can take literally years & cost a fortune in some countries. It can also get you placed on government registries, often dangerous.

@AbleismWatch @viciws I have a diagnosis which did not cost me money, if it costs to get it, you do have to make sure it is legitimate, it can be recognised during education or by your Doctor, diagnosing yourself can sometimes be incorrect, which can be very harmful if it includes meds

@AbleismWatch @viciws It was in reference to many misdiagnosed, that are given medication, and find down the line they do not have the condition, many private companies do interviews on line not even in person and inform clients or patients they have a condition, to get money

@knockback78 I lost my trust a long time ago, to be fair. I have worked with those that are ableist and somehow believe that is fine, I feel used in many ways in order to tick some other's box often :-(

Today is my last day at the wonderful @unitytheatre It has been a privilege to lead the organisation; to go from strength to strength in our work to engage and entertain audiences and to support underrepresented artists and participants in our creative programmes.

@ChrisJosephPAX My bother is autistic, highly verbal, sociable and fully mobile and he needs 1:1 24/7 support and is constantly at risk. Savant stereotypes are damaging for him. Remember folks. If you’ve met one autistic person You’ve met one autistic person

On the ‘autistic spectrum’? If yes, you are a highly intelligent and sensitive human being. So, be proud of yourself!

Thread Hello twitter. I am doing a talk about allies, inclusion and action. I would love to include your thoughts, comments & voices in my ‘talk’. Cos one voice (even mine) is too quiet! Videos would be lovely (phone sideways/landscape please), voice notes or text tweets➡️

@_Nic_LN This is definately not the right way to support people, have read your other posts below too, I find that potential abuse of women is ost definately not a way forward

When I worked at the absolute hell-hole that is The National Autistic Society, I was sent on managers training around supporting people with sex and sexuality. The trainer was a woman with an autistic son and she disclosed that she regularly took him to Amsterdam to exploit women

@weareunltd @joverrent @catnuala @ArtsPro So fully agree, as have experienced many situations within the arts, where ableism effects me, it does have a mental effect on my wellbeing, I still think ableism is often brushed off regards discrimination, it really does need to change
