How would this be related to Carrick? It’s at least a theory I have. But I think it’s understated how much we have reverted to a back 3 when having the ball under Carrick. Sure it suits Shaw, but it’s also per design. Dalot/the RB moved forward a lot. The LB rotates into a back 3. We play very much like Kieran McKenna does (but mirrored). He often uses a CB/RB type at RB (like Axel Tuanzebe). Schlotterbeck is a better ”LB” than Caliafori and Hincapie, for example. We will lose Casemiro’s aerial ability. It does seem like we will have 3 CMs next season that are fairly inexperienced, even if we get Anderson, he is just 23. Wharton. Baleba. I think experience and ruggedness would be a big issue next season for this young team playing in the PL and the CL. Let’s say we line up something like this: ———————Cunha——————— Dorgu————Bruno————Mbuemo ————-Wharton—-Mainoo———- X———-Martinez——Yoro———Dalot If we have a young offensive minded LB we could easily turn into cannon fodder. Add Schlotterbeck to the LB position — and our ruggedness and physical level becomes perfectly acceptable. In addition — we must of course start to have big questionmarks in relation to Martinez. I like Heaven — but if Martinez keep being injured all the time, Heaven can’t play 60 games next season. Nico S gives us depth there.
