Saying Apple has lost the AI race is analogous to saying Nvidia has lost the AI race. Apple’s product offering lies in the interface in which people interact with the digital world and the “software” is is the AI models which AI labs will create. Their work with TSMC in the creation of their own chips started years ago and today their performance is unrivaled. Their next play is in improving their chip performance for optimized FLOP performance to be able to run local models directly integrated into MacOS and IOS. They have long standing contracts with TMSC, Micron, and SK hynix. Making their position in the current demand crisis relatively stable. They are playing the game, but in a different position, people should remember that

The capacity of openAI and anthropic to specialize efforts towards AI was their advantage. Google and Meta already have their targets to have been able to capture frontier in the emergent field. This is the same principle that allowed google and Meta to become what they are today
