EMIP 2023 will be co-located with @ETRA_conference in Tübingen, Germany. The workshop will be hybrid. We just published the call for papers: emipws.org/workshop/emip-… We invite several types of contributions (new research results, new ideas, demos, work-in-progress).

@GraphicsRunner I agree, that would be really interesting. It's just tough to properly design a study around it, since dependencies bring in a lot of potential confounding factors.

@peitek If you continue in this area, it would be really cool if it's possible to test understanding of large/complex systems and their interactions/dependencies.

Despite similar education and background, programmers can exhibit vast differences in their abilities! In our latest study, we dug deeper into the topic! I'll : 1) explore programmers' brains and eyes, and 2) undermine conventional programming experience measures... 🧵(1/13)

@neilccbrown Yep, that's certainly true! On the other hand, that also seems to be one main demographic for many studies in our field :)

@peitek Interesting paper, thanks! I think there is a bit of a qualifier on the implications of the weak experience<->ability link: your participants were generally young and students, so their years of programming were relatively low.

In line with my research, I should have monitored my brain 🧠 during my thesis defense, but I wasn't allowed to bring the fMRI scanner home. But, I tracked my heart rate throughout the day. It was not as high as I expected, but still concerning for just sitting in a chair 😅
