@MichealMartinTD Jim Gavin did not put himself forward for election. He competed in a race to get elected but he didn’t make it as far as the election. You however elected him to run in the race for election. Not a wise choice.

Can we stop with the absolute nonsense about the nomination process for the presidential election being "rigged" or potential candidates being "blocked". The Constitution provides for a process - selection by Oireachtas members and local authorities - that process was followed.

@MichaelgTCD 25.3% of the votes in a two horse race? And the competing horse was a lame duck? 🤦‍♂️

With electorate of just over 3.6m, Catherine Connolly’s first prefs amount to 25.3% of electorate. Higher than Mary Robinson, Mary McAleese and Michael D Higgins; highest since Erskine Childers in 1973 (32.3%). Catherine C is President by choice of electorate, not by default.

@john_mcguirk We certainly don’t elect the brightest. Leinster House needs a mandatory ‘IQ lock’. People cannot enter if they are of insufficient intellect. That would eradicate the current encumbents.

@griptmedia I’m not sure Helen understands democracy. Its about the will of the people Helen, not the will of your overpaid teaboy.

Let’s not forget to thank the #spoilthevote clowns 🤡. They scored one of the greatest own goals in Irish electoral history by helping hand Catherine Connolly an even bigger margin of victory by denying Heather Humphreys a swathe of votes from the near & far right of Fine Gael 🙏

@rte should not let Declan Ganley get away with plugging the idea that this was a rigged election. It was held under the terms prescribed in our Constitution.

@rtenews Who were behind it? IRLGov were behind it - do you really need to ask? They can’t even run an democratic election campaign. They certainly can’t run a country, but they’re still figuring that out.

@SocDems Yes, that concert she had where her buddies sang “F*&k the Catholic Church” - it had a real Bob Vylan ring to it. Charming. Don’t lose the run of yourself buddy, she was a lame horse in a race where the other two horses never got out of the starting gate.

@DarranMarshall “If we are ever to have a united Ireland , we have to respect all traditions” How about trying to win over the electorate? Otherwise, good luck with any referendum you bring to the people, you’re gonna need it.
