Today is Trans Day of Visibility. Trans, non-binary, and gender-nonconforming people have always been here — from the hijra of India to the Diné nádleehi to the leaders who built the modern LGBTQIA+ movement here in New York. Your existence is not up for debate. Your lives are not a political issue. We’re fighting for a city where every trans New Yorker can live openly, safely, and with joy.

For generations, the Greek Australian community has helped write the story of modern Australia. And our nation is better for it. As we mark Greek Independence Day this week, we remember their fight for freedom, our shared history and their contribution to our nation.

Noelia Castillo Ramos was euthanised yesterday at around 6 p.m. local time at Hospital Residencia Sant Camil near Barcelona. In 2022, Noelia was placed in a state institution amid family difficulties. There, she was gang-raped by a group of North African migrants. The trauma broke Noelia. Months later, she attempted suicide by jumping from the fifth floor of a building. She survived the fall but was left paralysed. Instead of offering long-term support, the Spanish authorities offered assisted suicide as a solution. Yesterday, despite a large group of people showing up at the hospital to support her, Noelia sadly decided to end her life. Her rapists were never arrested and remain free men today. RIP Noelia. We will not forget you. 💔

I am very wary of reports that the UK is now within range of Iranian ballistic missiles. But if the reports are true, let’s be in no doubt: the UK has no defences against such missiles. No dedicated national ballistic missile defence (BMD) system for intercepting intermediate- or intercontinental-range threats aimed at the homeland. No ground-based interceptors (like US THAAD or Patriot systems in Europe) deployed in Britain for this purpose. In theory our T-45 warships could provide some cover. But most are currently undeployable or not in UK waters. Leaving us defenceless from ballistic missile attack. Another massive military failure of the political class of all recent governments.
