We uncovered something far bigger than I ever expected. The proposed car tax would be $130-150/yr for EVs and #35-50/yr for hybrids. The committee also passed an extension on the per-mile pilot program that was enacted in 2021, extending it for another 5 years. "Pilot programs" start out as tests, optional participation and eventually become laws, mandated participation. This is yet another big piece of the surveillance state. They use apps, GPS, odometer readings to charge the per mile fee. If we think ALPRs (FLOCK cameras) are invasive, just wait until the government has GPS tracking on everyone.

Gonna try to explain this to tech CEOs again: Young Americans are pissed. They feel betrayed. Half have embraced the far right & want to cut off your access to cheap foreign labor. The other half have embraced the far left & want to cut off your head. One side will win. Choose.

One of the more transparent forms of dishonesty on the current political scene is using high-skill immigration (the kind of people who come in on O-1 visas) to argue against the kind of border controls that might keep out violent low-IQ riffraff. You open-borders advocates out there are not helping your case with people like me who have libertarian inclinations towards a moderate policy by talking as though restrictionists don't want more Elon Musks in this country. Stop this. You're not fooling anybody. What the restrictionists want is not to have this country flooded with handout-seeking trash who refuse to assimilate and drive down wages. These are not O-1 people they are talking about, if only because the reality is that there are so few potential immigrant geniuses in the world that they can't have any effect on the job market that's distinguishable from statistical noise. The restrictionists are falling into an error of their own. They're getting angrier and angrier about trash immigrants - which is reasonable - and overreacting into trying to shut down all legal immigration and even denaturalize people here who aren't welfare clients. Which is not reasonable. If that happens - and it might - the blame should fall on everybody who advocated for heavily subsidizing trash immigrants. Illiterate truck drivers who murder families, MS-13 gangbangers, Somali health-care fraudsters, and the like. There is no good case for not deporting these people, and when you whine about losing top scientists you are not just talking past the real problem, you are insulting everyone's intelligence. There will be a reckoning for these abuses. I think every attempt you make to change the subject and delay it will eventually make it harsher.

Virginia already charges me $165 a year for gas tax on my electric car. I'm sure they aren't the only state that does that, so now the feds want a piece of me too? In addition, VA's car tax costs about the same as paying sales tax on the value of your car EVERY YEAR. Things are already out of hand.

@MelanieIrvine_ @EzraACohen I was in Florida over Christmas and a bit after, and I bought strawberries 2x, both quarts, both about $2.50 - best strawberries I remember ever having. They were probably grown in Plant City or something, but the ones up north are not anywhere near that good.

So are virtually all Strawberries…Hardly any flavor at all and they’re all white inside instead of red. I also had the worst, most flavorless, fibrous/stringy mangoes from Whole Foods this week. Beautiful on the outside and soft enough that they should have been perfectly ripe, but I cut into and then immediately had to trash all 3 of them - totally inedible.

The Clementine mandarin oranges sold in stores are increasingly flavorless. Does anyone know what's going on with this?
