Have you seen how good looking our plant profile pages are lately? We just shipped grouped traits. Instead of traits being sorted arbitrarily, we've carefully and painstakingly (well, @hkort did) organized them into categories. Thanks Han! #permaculture #opendata

Cover crop in the food forest was down back n 2017-2018. Vetch, oil seed radish, crimson clover, rye. Rye and clover coke in string every year, some vetch and radish too. Dutch and red clover are native.

Back when we first began the project, we walked our neighbors through our goals: rain garden, edible/rewilded landscape, native wildflower meadow, the food forest. Eyebrows raised, they called a friend and exclaimed: "My neighbors are building the rain forest!" 🤦‍♂️ I'll take it!

Still a work in progress, but I think it’s going to work. I started with Justin Rhodes’ design, simplified for meat birds (no nest box, allows shorter inner box height) and used 2x10 rather than 2x4 for the base of the sides to allow similar ground clearance with 20” wheels.

Has anybody built a chickshaw-style #chicken trailer with smaller than 26" wheels? The price jump from 20" to 24" to 26" is *substantial*, and I'm about to build two more shaws. Would love to bounce a few questions off of anybody who's tried smaller wheels

I don’t smoke, but I’m trying to get a leg up in the local gift economy. All I have to give away are chicken eggs, and everybody already has more than enough of those. Hopefully permaculture weed helps me rack up some favors

We're not celebrating Earth Day. We're just gonna keep building tools to keep planting data and work to make growing food more accessible, and we're going to sow some seeds in the garden, and in our communities. ✊🌱

💚💚💚 If you haven’t seen the planner yet this year, check it out! The @permapeople_org team has been hard at work (mostly @hkort).
Sam Sager@sc_sager

@hkort wow this looks amazing. pretty much exactly what I was looking for. its cool that there are examples of other plans too. and the plant database is killer. also the way the plants light up yellow when you hover on them is super neat

First hollow stump planted! That’s a Grimes Golden apple tree. It’s a likely parent of Golden Delicious, very sweet but with a spicy/nutmeg balance. Also historically popular as a cider apple & a universal pollenizer for neighboring apple trees Let’s see how it goes!

Ecosystem restoration is primarily about changing human systems of resource management. The nature part is by far the easiest part of the process.

@permapeople_org I’d just add: We are not experiencing normal rates of change, but extreme acceleration with anthropogenic causes (combustion of fossil fuels + land degradation) which result from a specific historical form of social-economic system (capitalism).

The climate changes whether we like it or not. If we admit we are a keystone species, then we have responsibility towards stewardship. Acknowledging a changing climate means we must admit that ecosystems too, will change. Some will adapt, others may be stewarded towards health.

@derhess @UpRiseth We do not live in a pristine wilderness, and our climate is changing. Most ecosystems around us are far from their natural state, and always changing. We don't advocate for knowingly planting destructive *invasive* plants but for using all tools at our disposal. There is nuance.

@permapeople_org @UpRiseth Such an approach is a very strong intervention within a very complex (eco)system. The history reveals that the implications are not really foreseeable. Is permaculture not about solving (climate) problems with local resources?
