I am trying to quit smoking by vaping. This is akin to giving up sex addiction by humping a car bumper, but it's coming along. I am an unrepentant smoker. I'd smoke forever if I could. But apparently it might have some relation to the three heart attacks I've had that I know of.

@NoCaparison @wrathofgnon There are lots of examples of straw bale houses with cob covering. I'm sure there are some on youtube. The smart ones round the edges around the windows for more light and pleasant shadows.

@HankHeil @BjorkBrodern Still very common in Denmark. Many houses outside of the city burn wood pellets. We do. We have a boiler room and pellets are stored in the shed. We'd love a geothermal pump, but the cost of that... 😳

I have a deep need in my soul for a boiler room. The place where my father's generation found peace from nagging wife's and annoying children. The heat from the furnace, the smell of wood dust, concrete floor, reading old newspapers one last time before you throw them into the fire.

@Kpaxs I guess that the disincentive is to take on undue risk and responsibility; for example, what if the expense claim was rejected, and does this set a precedent for this person to 'fix' all problems.

I call it the "Refrigerator Principle"
Most organizational dysfunction exists because everyone assumes someone else has the authority to fix it, and the fastest path forward is often just pretending you have that authority and dealing with forgiveness rather than permission.

This isn't always the case. Sometimes you need to stay with them and their emotions a bit longer. Can suck when it's at an inconvenient time or place. Mostly I don't mind. Their emotions aren't dangerous. Distraction is a last resort when they're in a loop and can't get out.

Næh man, it works but that's short term thinking. Raising a person that can't stay in their emotions and always wants to find a way to get out of it. The thing is, toddler emotions are short lived. Let them feel it without restraint and 2 minutes later they're happy again.

Raising our fourth toddler has made it incredibly obvious the way to deal with negative emotions is distraction. Oh you're crying because you hit your head? Is that a bird outside? Problem solved.
