Breaking: Nida Khan has been arrested in the TCS Nashik conversion case. She has been arrested by Nashik police from Shambhajinagar

Her name was Soumya Vishwanathan. She was 25 years old. A television journalist and producer at Headlines Today in New Delhi. On the night of September 30 2008 she left the office at around 3am and drove home alone on Nelson Mandela Road in South Delhi. A maroon car was following her. The occupants pulled alongside her vehicle and fired a single shot through her window. The bullet struck her in the head. Her car drifted off the road. She was found by passersby. She was declared dead on arrival at hospital. Police initially thought it was a car accident. Forensic reports revealed the bullet wound. CCTV footage showed the maroon car trailing her in her final minutes. In March 2009 Delhi Police arrested Ravi Kapoor and Amit Shukla in connection with the murder of another woman named Jigisha Ghosh. During questioning they confessed to killing Soumya too. They described it as a thrilling activity. The motive was robbery. The same gang. The same car. Two women. Months apart. In June 2009 police filed a chargesheet against five men. Ravi Kapoor, Amit Shukla, Baljit Mallik, Akshay Kumar and Ajay Sethi. They were charged under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act. The trial lasted 15 years. On October 18 2023 the Saket Court in Delhi convicted all five of murder and robbery. Soumya’s mother Madhavi said after the verdict that they had been fighting for 15 years. It was a relief but they had lost their daughter forever. Follow for stories India deserves to remember.
