Influencers specifically selected because of their documented pro-Iranian and pro-Russian political positions. Among those invited: an American activist who repeatedly praised Khamenei as an anti-imperialist leader. An American communist party co-founder who previously expressed public support for the Islamic Republic. A British-Pakistani influencer with documented ties to Iranian regime travel programmes. Their posts, images and statements were immediately picked up by Iranian state media and distributed globally. The regime did not need to produce its own propaganda. It imported Western voices to produce it for them. This is the information warfare dimension of political Islam that Europe consistently underestimates. The Brotherhood cultivates useful allies in Western civil society through NGOs, academic partnerships and funding networks. Iran cultivates them through media platforms, travel invitations and ideological alignment with Western anti-establishment movements. Different methods. Same goal. Make the West's own voices argue the Islamist case. The funeral was not a religious ceremony that became political. It was a political operation staged as a religious ceremony. The distinction matters because Europe keeps treating Islamist political theatre as a faith expression requiring sensitivity rather than a strategic communication operation requiring scrutiny.
