@LuchaLounge Understandable. He's totally polarising. And it's hard to think of him toeing a party line. It could get ACT a ton of extra publicity or it could explode in controversy in a month. Or both.

@secondzeit My problem with Paul Henry (or putting up entertainers as political candidates in general) is that I can't listen to his policy ideas at all because I really don't like him as a broadcaster. He could have the best message but I would be incapable to listen to it.

The only thing I'd say about Michael Laws and Paul Henry is that Laws aspires to be Henry, but lacks the sense of humour and the quick intelligence. Laws is a creature of the 20th century, Henry is of the 21st century. Laws is predictable, Henry is unpredictable.

John Carpenter has released a statement on the passing of Sam Neill: "I'm heartbroken to hear about Sam. We made two movies together, and every day on set was better because he was there.  "He was one of the finest actors I've ever worked with and brought intelligence, wit, and absolute commitment to every scene, making every moment feel real.  "Beyond the talent, he was a true gentleman. Over the years, I was lucky to call him a friend and I always admired his generosity, curiosity, and quiet sense of humor. "The world has lost a remarkable actor, father, farmer, and friend.  Thank you, Sam, for your extraordinary work, kindness, and the memories.  "Keep laughing at the madness of it for all for us, wherever you are."

RIP Sam Neill. The @IrishTimes had a few nice tributes yesterday that I should have posted.

My experience of Henry is chairing a couple of writers' sessions with him about 15 years ago. He was intensely funny and could work the crowd. It was like watching Michael Barrymore. He is eccentric and genuinely worldly. But also politically risky.

And therein lies the danger for ACT. And Henry could overshadow Seymour but there is no risk of Laws overshadowing Peters. But otherwise, ACT has won this.
