When I scrutineered, it was done manually, so preference distribution was done by the counters with us scrutineers watching every ballot/cycle. I imagine the reporting and graphing system was probably only designed to show Lab and Lib though, so some early graphs or count notices might not be presenting correctly. But that’s just presentation, not affecting the count itself.

@PeterGresham I agree with most but the AEC misread the ON vote They assumed the preference would sit Libs v Lab accordingly the system didn’t account for ON results Now 55% of electorates need a recount with a full preference allocation Labor still wins but has major finance benefits for ON

Obviously the SA AEC has grossly underestimated the mood of the Australian people The whole preference system is in a shambles

So, if I finance and run 5 candidates saying the same as my opposition, I can split their vote and win as first past the post. Preferential voting protects our democracy from fraud. It works. If a candidate fails, it’s because their side hasn’t convinced a majority of the voters in their area yet. The uniparty hold is tight. It will take perseverance to break it. The SA election was an amazingly successful start. Victoria will be even better. But it takes time to show you have the policies, stability and smarts to be the first option for most and the second preference for a good number of the rest. ON supporters need to persevere with the audacity of Pauline herself.

If you remove the preference system, then a candidate can be undermined by fake alternative candidates selling a similar message. If you don’t believe Labor would absolutely run no-hope candidates to do that, then you probably think Liberals drifted to the WEF/Left organically rather than by deliberate manipulation. The preference system is one of the smart ways our democracy reduces fraud and cheating.

Gotta disagree. The American example shows how awful compulsory voting is in a democracy. When political parties have to convince people to vote, it stops being about policy and shifts to extreme messaging. Compulsory Voting wasn’t set up the the Uni party, it was set up by the clever and visionary people who first used it in 1925, increasing voter turnout from 60% to 90%. By comparison, only 65% voted in 2024 Presidential election in the USA and mid-terms generally only attract 45-50%. If people are voting against what seems common sense, it’s because the messaging is not getting through. ON did fantastic in SA - as well as could be hoped in a mature and generally well run historically Labor state. The only reason Labor increased their head count was because so many people saw through the uni-party Liberals, so shifted their vote away. Quite an expected result. Remember, over 60% of the state did not vote Labor. In 4 years, if ON can keep it together, the other half of the Legislative Council will be up for grabs and maybe a balance of power situation might occur. ON spent $100k vs a massive union/superannuation funded and staffed campaign assisted by a compliant media that constantly referred to Pauline as controversial and far right. Aussies are not reactionary or anti government as a generalisation. They’ve been belted by lies about Pauline for decades. All things considered, SA is a great start to a new movement and Victoria is likely to be even better, as people are suffering much more directly than in SA.
George Mamalis@georgieAM

This wasn’t a landslide… it was a shift. The media will tell you it’s a Labor wave. But the reality is nearly 60% of South Australians didn’t vote Labor. What we’re actually seeing is something new: real opposition rising. One Nation potentially securing 2–3 lower house seats + 3 upper house seats in a Labor state… That’s historic. And it was done on a $100K campaign. Now imagine what happens next. More funding. More structure. More people stepping forward. This isn’t overnight. This is a movement. And what happens in SA… is about to ripple across the country. Victoria is next. Huge thank you to everyone who supported Turning Point, used our how-to-vote cards, and backed the content we reached millions. This is just the beginning.

Compulsory voting means the average Australian is forced to the polls, where they have done no research, probably don’t even know how Politics works in Australia, so they vote for the sugar hit of the day. Then wonder why their lives are so shite. If we lived in a true democracy we would not have compulsory voting. But it suits the Uni party set up in Canberra.

Successive Labor parties state & federally have bought us massive debt, uncontrolled immigration, destruction of our power grid based on a hoax, and have divided the entire country on race. Yet Australians keep voting them back in with a bigger majority. Can anyone tell me why.

I’m not a voter as I’m an expat now, but it’s good to see ON draw lots of support. Got Cori in, which is a positive. Hopefully he sticks it out with the orange team. SA was never going to be a big win state, just a showing of how upset people are. If an extra seat or 2 can be squeezed out then woo! If not, that’s ok too.

Corrupt and inept is coming out with a false costing to sell a policy. Either by design or naivety. Over my decades, it’s been a common mantra when political parties swap - oh, we can’t or we need to change policy because (insert previous government) were worse than we knew. Being responsible is saying ‘this is our philosophy, our general intention’ with minute details and final form once we are in and can get accurate costs. One Nation is doing exactly what a responsible opposition that wants to be truthful should do.

According to Pauline Hanson, asking for policy costings is a “stupid question” - because One Nation has never been serious enough about policy to survive real scrutiny. One Nation doesn’t build policy - it sells slogans.

As an Australian woman I’m calling out our Prime Minister for his misogyny by supporting this “religion”. When he attended this mosque did he not look around & think, ‘hmmmm there’s not a single woman here’🤔 This ideology treats women like dirt on their shoes, not allowed in these men’s spaces, covered from head to toe, married off at 9 years old, that one disgusts me. He attended & thought nothing of the men only optics🤬

Today is election day and I'd like to remind South Australian voters that Labor has actively fought to block two bills protecting babies from late term abortion in the last term of parliament. Labor is the party of abortion and despite their desperate attempts to hide it by turning up to church and courting religious voters, this is who they are. I'm reposting this video of Labor Minister for Child "Protection" Katrine Hildyard from last Easter. She is aggressively pro-abortion and yet claims to be Christian. #makeitmakesense As on of the fiercest campaigners for the removal of human rights protection for babies throughout all 40 weeks of pregnancy, Hildyard should be renamed Minister for Child Destruction. Authorised by Dr Joanna Howe, Australia Life, 110 George St, Parramatta.

You’re dead wrong about One Nation. They have never said nor is it their policy to send troops to the war. The war is in Iran, the policy is to provide material support for military operations. Minesweepers in the gulf, to protect shipping. Engineers to other countries to assist with defence systems or rebuilding. No boots on the ground in Iran. Instead, a smart geopolitical activity that keeps our important alliances healthy without undue risk to Australian personnel. The propaganda machine has been spinning lies about Pauline and ON for decades now, take the blinders off and really see how sensible and good for Australia their policies and positions are.

@boblake33 @DougCameron51 Coalition - strongly favor the war and Zionism: Greens - oppose the war, but can say what they want without being tested. One Nation - want to send our troops to the war. Labor - couple of statements to appease Trump, bugger all else, while making the country better and fairer.

Wow! Peter Hartcher’s SMH talking sense! If this is not a wake up call to the Labor Cabinet nothing will be. Surely the political, economic and social impact of US/ Israel imperialism must dawn on the Cabinet. If not, the Caucus, branches and membership must demand peace not war!

I wouldn’t worry too much about the South Australian election. If Pauline gets good gains it bodes well for the election in 2 years. We need time for people to really get pissed off and drop the duopoly. More time will do that. It’s not going to get better with the same crowd in government and opposition.

VOTE ONE NATION IN SA ‘26 The Libertarian Party got the numbers for state registration in a Herculean effort in SA - then the SA government changed the law to require 8 months of rego required to be on the ballot. I believe Libertarians offer a unique absolutist stand on free speech, property rights, and opposing more government intervention and powers even for good aims with best intentions. I’ll always vote #1 libertarian where I can and encourage others to do so. For the 2026 SA election PHON is the only party with a chance of being a genuine opposition to labor, and voters have an opportunity to send a message to the uniparty. For the 2026 SA election this weekend I encourage anyone reading this post to vote One Nation.
