@stuhardy1979 @dresserman Don’t they have floor plans of the stores? The time taken to visit and measure probably exceeded any potential saving…

@dresserman I knew it was all over when one of them (who i actually liked tbf) came to my store and got his tape measure out to log the distance between Goods in and WH to see if we 'really needed' all of our delivery hours.

I suggested in one retailer to make the productivity team redundant. Those could be my 1st year savings whilst we got on with the job of doing it properly.

@dresserman A strong non food business that’s pretty reliant on customers coming in for food though?

The Asda turnaround will take time. it's a difficult market, much changed from when Allan Leighton was first around. All of the work so far has been impressive, but the proof of the pudding will be in the eating. Value has improved, they're clearer and more consistent and a long term plan is sorely needed. Bench strength is questionable at the exec level and the execution has to be more at the level of Tesco and Sainsbury's. It's hard to see past either of them, plus Aldi and Lidl. Then M&S at the other end with Waitrose improving. However, when comparing both PE owned companies - Morrisons and Asda. There is only one winner and only one (*for me) that looks like it has a plan. That is Asda. Morrisons are nearly at £1bn of "savings" (essentially self harm) with counters closed, cafe's closed, more closed by stealth with clearance areas overflowing and some staff not allowed in the warehouse(!) Deals and price are improving but loyalty is confused and the store standards are in truth, appalling. The biggest frustration for me is the linking of Sir Ken Morrison to the business in its current form, be it the academy or food making. It's an insult to the man and his legacy what is currently going on in stores. Asda has a strong non-food business / clothing business in George, a plan, store refits and a wider reason for being. I have said for a long time that Morrisons were not making hay when the sun shone (IE your rival 8 miles down the road -6% every month)...

@dresserman I wouldn’t put money on either of them being around in 10 years time. While Asda might have more of a plan they’re both selling off the family silver and losing ground to rivals. I’m not sure Asda have halted the decline, it’s slowed as there are fewer shoppers as easily lost

@MrMatRead @dresserman They have the best beer selection though. You just have to wade through the jumble sale at the front of the store to find them…

@dresserman The whole Morrisons experience is just dismal. There just doesn’t seem to be any positives. What do they lead on? It’s not variety, price, value, or service. Once again you’re very right.

@NealOKelly @but_cyclists Traffic lights exist entirely because of motor vehicles and motor vehicles the traffic. Do you think cyclists need to be regulated as part of the “traffic flow”?

@DuncanStott @cramerislamer @HCH_Hill “Mortgage availability” as in BTL mortgages. Something like a ten-fold rise in landlords and private BTL housing. We have lots of homes, just lots owned by “investors” pushing up prices Also alongside population growth, we have lots of smaller households. Fewer people per home

@cramerislamer @HCH_Hill Housing demand has gone up because of earnings growth, mortgage availability and population growth due to immigration and improved life expectancy, with nowhere near enough supply to keep up.

@eV_Newt @Timoldland I actually like the Ami type/class of car (the Fiat variant is better looking IMHO) and it’s all the car most people ever need. I was just pulling your leg a little about it 😉🤣

Picked up this -what I thought and is- small CarPlay front/rear camera combo new, unused on FB Marketplace for 40 quid for the Citroen Ami. Reminds me of the time I bought a 55 inch TV for the bedroom and my wife went nuts 😅 Anyway, works great. 🤓

@1Percenterer @brnsantanna BMWs have famously all looked the same, there’s the old Top Gear joke, you go into the dealer and ask “I’ll have 5 meters of BMW please” and you’ll get a 7 series 🤣

@MortgageMikeN2 You could apply your belief to a hell of a lot of infrastructure. We shouldn’t have built the Elizabeth line on that basis. We certainly shouldn’t build any roads either on that justification. I’m assuming then you’re against the Elizabeth line/cross rail?

@peterwells79 The point I was trying to make at the time and history has shown me to be correct is that we didn’t have the ability to deliver HS2 in a cost effective manner.

@MortgageMikeN2 No, Rishi was an idiot who cancelled vital infrastructure based on advice from a bigger idiot who either didn’t understand basics of railways or was an outright corrupt liar. He misguidedly did it for electoral advantage that never materialised… for money that’ll never be seen

The new Morrisons non food office isn’t far from B&M head office which is interesting. Convenience moving to retail is a bad move. An area mgr will have supermarket kiosks that do more money than a convenience store. Polar opposite of JS who changed structures the opposite way.
