@petesims101

He who knows only his own side of an argument knows little of that

@MartinSims1 @PunkRockStory I think there is probably still some merit in the argument. The concept is a bit reminiscent of catholic original sin and probably not that helpful in building a better future

@MartinSims1 The funny thing about that statement is that it could easily apply to either side

@MartinSims1 @pinkheretic I always found mersault a bit sociopathic in his detachment. You might be right about the chart not adequately catering for the “what does it matter” continuum. Perhaps it would be more accurate with an x and y relationship

1./ Is the Russell Brand takedown a plot by the mainstream media? Of course not. In Plain Sight was a rigorously constructed and brilliantly made example of British current affairs documentary-making; in the finest tradition of @C4Dispatches. 1 of /12 channel4.com/programmes/rus…

@MartinSims1 @BeatTheCult No, not invented but them but certainly made it main stream. Organised religion seems to have drifted away from the base message in favour of the ceremony of it

@MartinSims1 @BeatTheCult I don’t think being Christian and being an atheist are mutually exclusive either. I don’t believe in the big guy (like you cos it doesn’t make sense) but Jesus was onto some good stuff, like being nice to each other, that are worth respecting.

@MartinSims1 Unions are necessary for monopolistic employers like the government (e.g. teachers and fire fighters) but in a competitive market they tend to get worse deals for their members than those that aren’t and expect you to pay for the privilege

@MartinSims1 I think you’re being black and white again. Minimum wage is helpful to stop exploitation. Too high of a min wage discourages employment. Rent control is a Nice idea but there’s Lots of research about the unintended consequences in places like New York. 1/2

@MartinSims1 It seemed like a nice idea to take it to the regions but using existing stadia and infrastructure in Melbourne would probably have been more sensible, especially, as you say, for an event half the world doesn’t care about

@MartinSims1 I found it pretty strange when Manners Mall was opened to vehicle traffic but other friends in Wellington said it was becoming unsafe due to the number of “unsavoury” types hanging out there
