With the passing away of the injured calf, the death toll now stands at 8. But then, these are just mere numbers which will be forgotten in the days to come and things will carry on a usual till another such occurrence is witnessed.

The calf was barely a day old when admitted to CWRC with critical injuries. It succumbed to its wounds this morning (13/12), having suffered a fractured limb and internal bleeding. The death toll has now risen to eight. Sharing this video reluctantly — to show how a baby elephant met a tragic end while trying to keep up with its family as they crossed a railway track. @RailNf — if this is what happens to ‘Bholu’, it’s time you change your mascot. And @assamforest if you are committed to saving wildlife, show it.
