Located at the foothills of the Eastern Himalayas, ✨Manas Tiger Reserve✨ in Assam was first notified as a wildlife sanctuary in 1928, declared a Tiger Reserve in 1973, and later inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It takes its name from the Manas River (named after the Hindu snake god Manasa ), which flows from Bhutan into India, carving a landscape of floodplains, grasslands, and evergreen forests. Its forests range from tropical semi-evergreen and moist deciduous to riverine grasslands- habitats that sustain an astonishing diversity: tigers, elephants, rhinos, wild water buffalo, golden langurs, clouded leopards, and the world’s last remaining population of wild pygmy hogs. Manas is also a Biosphere Reserve, Elephant Reserve, and Important Bird Area. Beyond its natural splendour, Manas is home to the Bodo and other indigenous communities, whose songs, weaving, and forest traditions reflect an age-old harmony with the land. @manasnptr @assamforest @PMOIndia @moefcc @wii_india @MSTrIPES @PIB_India @EnvironmentPib @IBCA_official @Unitedfortigers #NTCA #Tigers #AmritKaalKaTigerVision2047

Manas National Park and Tiger Reserve (MNP & TR) on Wednesday concluded a landmark international training programme aimed at revolutionising the management and welfare of captive Asian elephants. Held from February 1 to 4, the initiative brought together experts from the Australian charity Human-Elephant Learning Programs (HELP) Foundation, alongside teams from Kaziranga National Park and the Wildlife Trust of India (WTI). The HELP Foundation team worked intensively with a select group of “Master Mahouts” from Manas and Kaziranga, focusing on welfare-friendly practices that replace traditional methods with positive, pressure-release reinforcement. Field Director of Manas National Park, Dr C Ramesh, IFS, stated: “At Manas, we are proud to be at the forefront of elephant welfare, implementing world-leading and scientifically backed methods. This collaborative effort shows what sustained and positive outcomes can be achieved when we work together.” Mark Trayling, Chair of the HELP Foundation, underscored the bond between Australia and India in wildlife protection. @byadavbjp @moefcc @himantabiswa @CMOfficeAssam @cmpatowary @CSAssam_ @assamforest @mkyadava @mygovindia @mygovassam @wti_org_india @vivek4wild @manasnptr Full Read- dailypioneer.com/news/manas-hos… via @TheDailyPioneer

On #WorldWetlandsDay, water saucers created with #APFBC funding in @manasnptr are cleaned & replenished with fresh water for wildlife. In the water-scarce Bhabar tracts, these structures function as micro-waterbodies—helping animals quench their thirst & regulate body heat. 💧🐾

A rare and captivating wildlife moment was witnessed at @manasnptr, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where two tigers were spotted resting on a tourist track. Safari jeeps, passing through the area, remained stationary as the big cats occupied the road, offering visitors an unforgettable glimpse of the animals in their natural habitat. The sighting occurred in the park’s Basbari Range on December 20. A group of tourists watched in awe as the tigers moved leisurely along the path, unconcerned by human presence. It is noteworthy that the tiger population in Manas National Park has seen a significant increase in recent years. Consequently visitors have been able to witness tigers more frequently during their safaris. #assam #tiger #TheAssamTribune @assamforest @cmpatowary

#8pm : The Manas Story : Concluded an inspection tour of #ManasNationalPark and #TigerReserve on behalf of the Act Implementation Committee of @AssamAssembly . Manas is the oldest tiger reserve and #WorldHeritageSite OfAssam . Its significance lies in its tranquility, landscapes and rich #BioDiversity . But the park is facing a major problem regarding its grassland. A survey found that the whereas 63% of the total land was covered by grasses in 1989 it has decreased to 37% in 2019. Intervention of #UNESCO is very much needed at the moment. @UNESCO @assamforest @indianforest @IndianForests
