I don't know if any current or former councillors in Toronto are renters, not homeowners. During this housing crisis, and with half of the voters in Toronto now being renters, it's important for a renter to be on Council. A Maytree Fellow, Diana combines expertise and experience!

I’m running for City Council in Parkdale—High Park. I’m running because our neighbours deserve a councillor who has walked alongside them, fought for them, and knows how to turn community demands into real wins at City Hall. Join me at dianachanmcnally.ca.

@Urban_Toronto I read the article. Still completely in the dark about how this development "slow[s] things down" - I don't even know what this means in the context of a housing development. No steak, all sizzle.

A new mid-rise development is aiming to do something increasingly rare in Toronto’s condominium market: slow things down. Located at the edge of Rosedale and Summerhill, 1 Marlborough is being developed by Devron Developments as a 13-storey building containing 58 suites, anchored by a restored heritage structure. urbantoronto.ca/news/2026/05/d…

@SustainableTall Hi Phillip. Total cost was higher: €3,146,110 (C$5,039,439.00), or €165,585 (C$265,234.05) per door. Also, this is the capital funding total and does not include the value of the land.

@journo_dale Thanks for the feedback, Dale - you make a good point. That interpretation certainly divides the Crown in a functional, if not formal, manner. The practical counterpoise to the legal interpretation that each Crown is seperate, even if embodied in the same person. Be well, Peter.

@pgmyyz They may have created the styles and titles in 1953, but the Crown became divisible under SoW in 1931. The part about the UK no longer legislating for Dominions is the key—individual prime ministers at that point each advise their own Crowns.

@pgmyyz The Statute of Westminster created the Canadian Crown, as well as the Crowns of every other realm. Read your history. And we chose to adopt UK regnal numbers for the sake of ease.

@JeremyGWithers @ccpa I haven't heard of any. One problem is the monthly condo fees are difficult to absorb when you are creating supportive (especially) and deeply affordable housing. Another is ideological - the NFP housing sector is uncomfortable owning condos. See you tomorrow at Sch. of Cities?

@pgmyyz @ccpa Thanks for this. Yes, I supposed I used “launched” too loosely, considering it’s still on the tarmac. That’s interesting that Toronto’s MURA allows new build purchases. Do you know if it has funded any to date?

Ottawa & Queen's Park are bailing out the developers & investors that broke Ontario's housing market, offering an $11 billion tax giveaway. Will it work? And if so, who will it work for? My latest for @ccpa policyalternatives.ca/news-research/…

@michael_wiebe As you've pointed out before, Michael, new high-end rental housing + effect of vacancy chains = more existing affordable rental housing opens up for low-income households. Everyone wins. (Everyone who is not a speculator, that is). 🏡➕⛓️🟰🏠🏠🏠

Two goals for housing policy: 1) absorb demand from rich newcomers. This is necessary maintenance work to prevent a demand cascade from raising prices across the housing ladder. 2) provide immediate housing for poor people. 1/
Michael Wiebe@michael_wiebe

Left-NIMBYs think that blocking new apartments stops gentrification. What actually happens: new demand is redirected to the existing housing stock. Instead of living in new apartments, rich newcomers buy up old homes and displace renters.

@MoreNeighbours I've spoken recently with Alia at Circle Land Trust, & they are currently exploring using a standard multiplex template on many of their SFDs in the suburbs. They, and PNLT, do have some properties that could be developed along these lines but currently they are at full capacity.

@MoreNeighbours I think this is something that the City should consider in a future City-led supportive/affordable housing development. Especially if some of the capital funding is from a provincial fund. (It's something I have been lobbying for at Housing Secretariat and Development Review.)

@ChrisAlvino Those without empathy for others cannot comprehend others having empathy for them. In such a transactional reality they live sad and fearful lives. It's no wonder they think community, wealth and health are all zero-sum systems, making their selfishness the ultimate virtue.

This is my issue with conservatives explained in a single video: They are COMPLETELY unable to practice any kind of empathy (neither cognitive nor emotional) with any out-group. Until they have first-hand experience with an issue, they cannot fathom that it even exists

@PlannerSean Hi Sean. One of my pet joys was the, usually about once a year, Council motion where Holyday and Perks would be the only two councillors voting against the motion. Now I am bereft, and adrift, utterly adrift!
