@kthurmykinz @glindaupland Disney must've known though, well idk about the US system but don't tell me his age/records wouldn't pop up when they taxed his income. Probably just the crew didn't have access to that information, but Disney must've been aware, right?

@glindaupland Like if he could get away with lying about how old he is, I imagine many people involved at Disney can go get careers as sex offenders and all kinds of criminal records being unchecked. Like checking someone’s legal age is as simple as checking an ID.

@glindaupland You're bringing up something tons of actors at cons talk about - how the security just wasn't there in the past (a lot of roles were just "handed out") and they compare it modern filming which is very different. So I would love to think this is handled better nowadays. I hope.

@vasuman @bygregorr It always felt like Meta tried to do replicate Second Life but failed. It literally felt like Second Life with zero people and zero of the charm SL had on the old web.

@bygregorr The Metaverse was supposed to compete with (and destroy) Roblox with superior tech and immersion. It's easy to say that now there's less of a point, but in 2021, it was anyone's game.

As someone who worked at Reality Labs: the Metaverse had real legs but was obliterated by middle management completely out of touch with how young people actually use technology. I built a V1 tool that game developers genuinely needed, and the moment it was done, it got shipped to a team in London (to die), and I was reassigned to a "higher-priority project" that zero developers asked for. Multiply that by every team, and you'll understand why this never took off yet cost 80 billion.

JUST IN: Meta announces they'll be shutting down the Metaverse, after pouring $80,000,000,000.00 into the project.

@9mmsmg You could never understand it unless you live it. It's a mix of trauma, bad coping mechanism and GENETICS.I vividly remember feeling the urges to gorge on food as young as kindergarten. I remember not being allowed more food and chewing on the grass to fill the hole inside.

@9mmsmg My family has history of serious alcohol addiction and trauma, and the mechanism of eating is basically the first way of learning how to manually release the happy chemicals. A first drug you could say. It's an addiction as every other.

After watching quite a bit of this show, it's impossible not to notice something. Most of these people are ridiculously low IQ. Their families are nearly all as incredibly stupid and are often fat, too. This is an example of high time preference. There is only the now, there's no way to envision the future for them. A person of normal intelligence would think, "If I'm going to eat this whole cake, I'll get fat." These people can't possibly think about downstream effects. They simply don't have the cognitive function. This is a plague of those with IQs in the 80s. It impacts every aspect of their life. There is no tomorrow. There's only cake. Giving full agency to people below the curve generally ends in disaster. They can't help it.

I had never actually seen My 600 Lb Life before. A random clip or two. I started watching it and my God is it fascinating. One lady was over 600 lbs and the doctor put her on a 1200 calorie a day diet. He had expected her to be down 120 lbs in three months. He weighs her and she gained 12 lbs. Insane show.

@raggedydocs Its the british comedy mixed with fantasy or sci fi element genre. Its just so endearingly whimsical. Dirk Gently's Holistic Detectice Agency was the last shoe I found with a simialr vibe - it's like a crack lmao.

@themarcusjr @12PursueTruth This is because profesionals aren't able to distinguish between ADHD pathology and ADHD - like symptoms stemming from modern lifestyle. I personally believe I have both, but my ADHD wouldn't be debiliating if I wasn't raised a "digital kid" (working on it!).

@12PursueTruth The same thing happens with ADHD. A person has 12 hours of screen time per day, doesn’t exercise, eats only sugar and carbohydrates, and it’s all blamed on ADHD. You see 9- or 10-year-old kids being prescribed Ritalin. It’s bizarre.

Autism: “The spectrum has become so accommodating that I fear that it has now been stretched so far that it has become meaningless and is no longer useful as a medical diagnosis.” Problem is that psychologists, and increasingly a flood of master’s level therapists have come to rely on the autism diagnosis to support their practice. Their livelihood. I suspect schools face a similar reliance on autism diagnoses for extra funding. Furthermore: Parents love it because their child gets extra services. Students love it because it makes them special. Drug companies love it because they profit from drugs. Psychologists are supposed to be the gatekeepers on diagnoses, but we are not doing very well at it.

@420torao It's the US centric kind outlook that doesn't take the time period of It's creation into consideration. The "Young male still childish enough to see high school girls as equal growing into a better adult human who develops responsibility for his own actions" is/was a common

>My wife's aunt died from a tainted blood donation in the late 80s. >Her newborn daughter was also infected. While her mom died, she has been on very powerful meds since she was a baby and is still alive at 40. >However when she became pregnant herself for the third time, she stopped taking one of the medications as it was causing a severe reaction. >Somehow this caused her to first lose colour vision and now to go nearly completely blind. >Just from not taking the meds. >Thankfully her kids are all healthy and uninfected but people really shouldn't be downplaying HIV too much. >It's no longer a death sentence but it is a life sentence. >Watch the movie The Normal Heart on HBO, about the beginning of the AlDs epidemic. >That movie has stuck with me so viscerally for so many years now.

@ImGinnyRobinson This dark pigment under eyes can be caused by many things - my ppartners family has them genetically, just as his whole family, since childhood. While this situation is creepy I'd just be careful woth making assumption based on this sign.

That’s not even comparable. Tipping servers ≠ tipping firefighters. Servers: paid ~$2/hr base + tips make up most income. Tips incentivize hustle, refills, personality in a for-profit restaurant. Good service → more $. Firefighters: full salary + benefits from taxes. Job is life-or-death public duty, not customer-service sales. No "better hustle" via tips — ethics ban gifts to avoid favoritism/bribery vibes. One's a market incentive system. The other's a salaried public service. Apples & fire trucks. 🍽️🚒
