“Kimi K3 is insanely good. Chinese open source is taking over.” “It’s trash, American frontier models are always 6 months ahead. Have you even used it?” “No, have you?” “No”

i am increasingly concerned this is pretty much correct. not necessarily on the six month timeline but maybe 6-12, and that this pushes dramatically towards race dynamics and away from any possibility of cooperation. china actually committing to the open source path means from anthropic's perspective their margin for error has shrunk dramatically, and slowdowns have much much more tangible and imminent costs.

Anyone at OpenAI/Anthropic/Google/other incredible companies able to refer someone I know? Absolutely cracked individual, for PM/PO roles.

"Staying up to date on the latest in AI requires you to be unemployed" - X user Most people's AI setup is frozen in time based on whatever month they first built it. If that's you, it's not your fault. You're not lazy, staying up to date is nearly impossible. Every week there's a new model, a new methodology behind a harness, a new 'agent-loops'-esque bombshell that makes you think you have it all wrong. And unfortunately the vast majority of it is noise. Benchmarks are faked, terminology is astro-turfed, and virality is engineered. In an effort to provide a space for only the stuff that you need, both protecting you from the noise but keeping you up to date on what really matters and moves the needle: we're restarting the Varick Agents newsletter (it's free). We had nearly 50,000 subscribers and then went quiet for months (sorry lol). But going forward we'll be sticking to a weekly digest of what tools deserve a spot in your stack, how to build a harness that fits your needs, and which models are worth using. Find it below:

Every man has two lives. The second one begins when he finally admits he was wrong about OpenClaw and sells his Mac Minis.
