Why does this matter? UCHL1 could be an essential protein in maintaining the ovarian reserve. The more we know about the biology of the ovarian reserve, the more we can do to prevent infertility and some hormonal disorders! 3/3

Oocytes produce high levels of a protein called UCHL1. Mice that do not produce UCHL1 have fewer litters, smaller litter sizes, abnormal ovarian development, disrupted reproductive cycles, and decreased rates of ovulation. 2/3
